    HP pavilion dv6000 power problems

hi to all, my friend has a hp pavilion dv6000 that wont turn on, when I plug the charger the light on the power jack comes up but the other lights like the one that show is charging not turn on and when I press the power button nothing happen, my friend told me that the problem start when he had the laptop turn on and he plug the charger, wen he turn the laptop off and tried to turned on the laptop will not turn on, I suspect of a fuse or a short but a don't know where to start and I will appreciate you advice. thanks again.

Will it run on battery power? This is assuming you can find a charged battery or can use another laptop to charge the battery.

The power jacks in laptops often go bad due to cracked solder joints, or the jack contacts lose their springiness.

It looks like the DV6000 power jack is on a daughter card, which means you can replace the card at a modest cost and avoid soldering if you choose to go that route.

    P/N 431445-001 with 65-watt power adapter
    P/N 431446-001 with 90-watt power adapter

Was the power button hard to press before it died? If so, the power button may be bad: P/N 431437-001

This series may have Nvidia graphics, this generation of which are very failure prone, especially in laptops. Did the computer experience any video corruption issues before it stopped functioning? If so, you may want to research what is involved in reflowing the GPU chip. Check your model's specs first, I am not sure if all of the dv6000 series had nvidia graphics or just some models.

Can you turn it on with the touch buttons ?

I had a dv6000 that would not turn on with the powerswitch, I replaced the cheap Hp zif cabels under the keyboard with some I got on ebay.

      Never had that problem again.

They were similar to these but I cant remember the sellers id.

I test the power jack and is good and the the small board the jack is solder on look to be good because I toked apart and nothing look off of place and I toked the small daughter board and I plunged the charger an check for power on the par that connect with the mother board I cheeked the red and black wire and the multimeter comes up with 19V, for the ribbon cable a test the cables on continuity and the 2 cables test good. any other ideas. and thanks for reply.

Does it have a AMD Chipset, becouse if it does, it could be the problem. I have a DV2000 that does it about every 5 months. Also Check to see if the power button ribbon to the board is good, they go bad a lot when they have been pulled out to many times. Also I just got a DV6000 a few weeks ago from the local recycler, that had the intel board that would not turn on, and the power would flash one time. I was able to buy a new one on ebay for 63 dollars, and now it is fine.

Check the transistors opposite side of the board from where the DC cable plugs into the board. I have had to replace many of them.

I have the exact same problem as friend posted.

Managed to replace a working ribbon cable with power button from a second laptop (dv6700) that i have and problem remains.

The laptop doesn't start with battery
Can someone guide me where to start and measure voltage or fuse on motherboard?

"Doesn't start with battery" is quite vague. Does it at least recognize the battery? Does the charge LED light up on the front?

Check PQ3. If allright, give voltage on all pins with only battery connected.

Is there a rodent repeller-like sound coming from the power brick when plugged into the laptop? (laptop shorting PSU?)
If there is, I'm afraid it's dumpster food!

And I just wiped the HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop yesterday, IIRC.

All pins except one reads 12V on PQ3 with battery only connected.

After searching the pcb about 15 min i managed to find the below in red circle but not sure if the right side one is PQ31.

With yellow circle is the PQ32 marking and suppose that below in red circle is PQ32

This Volt readings are with battery plugged. Without battery and only dc jack plugged no volt readings

you can trace where is the voltage coming from to that fet.
if you can check it with a DMM on diode mode will be nice to see if its actually bad.
When its not getting any voltage that does not mean its broken .
Just cook it! It's already broken.

The 5 pin one is PU7 with 5v on pin 5 and 3.3v on pin 3. Give voltage and to the rest of pins.
PQ32 is on the left of it. To find which ones are on the right of PU7, you have to find the Z and R sections printed on the board which they define the layout of the smt's in those sections.

Please have a look at the below pic i have attached for you.
I have only 3.8V at one pin of PQ32 as i marked at pic. other pins are zero Volts.
Maybe from this pic which is more clear you can identify PQ31?

                                        Best Regards
                                        George

                                          Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.
