Samsung v25 screen and power problem

    Hello guys,

There is a samsung v25 am repairing that won't power on.

if the power button is pressed, after 5 seconds, it would start beeping endlessly until i press the power button to off it.

Even if it powers on, it will boot up to the windows xp desktop, then after some few minutes the screen will start having coloured vertical lines in red blue and then shutdown by itself

    any help here?

Sounds like a nasty problem. Take some pictures of it and post them here using "Manage Attatchments" on the post page. I dont think you should open it up and check the insides just yet, just post some pics of the failure "coloured vertical lines in red blue" .

A couple of things I would try: once it successfully starts, try booting into Windows Safe Mode to see if the vertical lines persist. You could also use a Linux Live CD to test our the hardware. The reason Dgtech wants pictures of the vertical lines is to make a determination if there is an issue with the LCD panel itself or the video hardware on the laptop.

If you suspect the RAM, try to swap out with some known good, or if you have a pair of sticks try them one at a time to see if things get better.

Another thing to try would be an external monitor to see if the problem moves to it.

ok thanks guys, i opened the laptop and swap the 256mb ram to the other slot, then laptop came on

i noticed one of the fans never spins even when doing heavy work with the laptop like watching films etc

I did general dust cleaning, and remove all dirt blocking the ventilation airways. i the switch the laptop back on.

I have been using it now for three days, and it seems to work fine. thanks for all who contributed, i will post any errors i notice.

Re: Samsung v25 screen and power problem

              Hello guys,

              I noticed a problem.

When the laptop goes into sleep, and i press the power button to wake it up, it does wake up, but the screen doesn't display anything, but is lit with white light.

pressing the keyboard or mouse doesn't make it show anything in the screen, but randomly pressing the keyboard makes the usual window error sound.

I have to press the power button to do a hard shutdown, and then turn it on again.

when the system does startup, it looses sound. I can temporarily restore the sound by first un-install the sound driver and installing again before i can get sound.

this has happened three times, and am already sick of it.
              is the any solution?

                Hi coolcurrent,
Maybe check your startup entries for possibly conflicting power management software, and disable. (msconfig, not startup folder)
Reset the BIOS to defaults, then check your BIOS sleep states (S1, S2, S3 etc.) and adjust appropriately.
Test the fan and it's connectors, replace/repair if necessary.
Monitor the temps and put it to sleep, then try to wake it up. Then increase airflow, monitor temps and repeat... does it make any difference? If so, clean/replace fans and consider reseating heatsinks with Arctic Silver 5.

                  Hello guys,

On trying to trouble shoot the problem, i got it to work fine for a moment.

the next day turning on the system boots to the desktop, and displays the following screen in the picture.

sometimes, as soon as windows boots up, it will display the desktop for about five minutes and shuts down by itself, at other times, it will just go off without shutting down!

                  what could be the problem?

Re: Samsung v25 screen and power problem

If I had to guess I'd say that the graphics chip/card is overheating due to a faulty fan/connector. That's assuming that you've done all the checks that have been suggested already...
Did you find out where the fan that doesn't work is connected to? It's probably the graphics card/chip

Re: Samsung v25 screen and power problem

Thanks Orpheous for replying, I suspect the same thing though. I openned the laptop and removed the fans, air cleaned it thouroughly and replaced it.

Normally only one fan spins on startup, but when doing heavy processing like dvd rom related or playing video, both fans should spin, but it randomly does.

The problem is noticed when only one fan is spinning or non does

Any more troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated

                      thanks

                        Hello guys
Now the lapto simply just goes to hibernation after logon. it does so for about 4-6 times before it stays 30min after logon and the hibernating by itself.

My observation is that the fans are not working correctly. How do i fix this problem?
