    question about TPS51980B at 820-01987

    Hello, the macbook has power issue - stuck at 5V.
    As I cannot find datasheet for TPS51980 [U7650] can someone help figuring out if there is an issue there.
    Voltages of TPS51980:
    pin23 VIN 12.27V
    pin22 VREG3 3.31V
    pin29 VREG5 0V
    pin13 VREF2 0V
    pin12 EN 0V

    so in order to get VREG5 & VREF2 it needs the enable at pin12 and VREG3 is always on?

    Remove all power. Measure the resistance to ground of vreg5 pin.

    Post the measurement.

        820-01987 is 2020 macbook right ? 12,3 volt on vin is not good.... it should be around 13 volt.

        dc in is 5 or 20 volt ?

            5v on charger is totally different problem, not related to tps51980.

            check 3.3 g3hot volt if present, and all ldo volts.

              you are right
              short at PP3V3_G3H
              I found shorted cap at PP3V3_G3H_SSD0 and more short under shield at T2 area
              is seems game over to me

              thank you for your time

                inspect ssd power ic if looks ok or bad... probably ssd got fried and unless u swap ssd nand ur board is dead, but before all that check everything

                  The security chip T2 has issue so there is a no fix.
                  I'm wondering how 2 separate locations have short at the same line, I'm guessing over-voltage.

                          by microitech
                          Hi everyone,

                          I've been troubleshooting a Mac Mini A1347 (820-5509) that came in for a simple thermal paste replacement, but it turned into a challenging repair. I've made some progress, but I'm stuck at a point and could really use some advice from those more experienced with this board
                          Worked fine for a week, then started powering on intermittently.

                          What I've done so far:

                          • Found PP3V3_G3H in short.

                          • Removed and replaced an AND gate (74LVC1G08) and an OR gate, which were causing issues on the line.

                          ...

                          Hello community, I have a MacBook Air 820-00165 with an i5 and 8GB Ram. The logic board doesn't want to start. I've taken some measurements but I can't really get any further.

                          And please excuse me if something is spelled wrong, I have to use a translator.

                          -------

                          PPBUS_G3H = 8.6 V (stable)
                          PP3V42_G3H = 3.44 V (stable)

                          SMC_RESET_L = 3.4 V (stable → SMC running)
                          SMC_PM_G2_EN = pulses between 0 V ↔ 3.3 V
                          PM_PWRBTN_L = pulses between 0 V ↔ 3.3 V

                          in schematics and in pdf ...they are both showing same signal and voltages..

                          actually i am working on A2141, 16 inch macbook pro and i am suspecting TPS51980B faulty..but i dont have same part handy...but i have TPS51980A ...

                          so can i use it?

                          LA-3741P issue with TPS51120
                          by rookieme
                          I need some help with this MB.
                          Schematic available at
                          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...24#post1272124

                          I have the 19,5V but not the 3,3 & 5 V.
                          TPS51120 gets warm
                          VREF2 = 2.00V
                          VREG3 = 1,01V
                          VREG5 = 4,99V

                          so far I have replaced the TPS but with same results
                          I cannot find any short
                          I have removed PJP4, PJP5 & PJP12 and after the PQ4,PQ5, PQ6 & PQ7.
                          the VREG still is low

                          Could the second TPS I had to be faulty too? I don't have more to try.

                          by Bradbeat
                          Hi,
                          I have a PGOOD pin down on this chip and I’m wondering if it could be because there is 5,2 v on VREG5 ( the high limit according to the datasheet is 5,1v ).
                          if yes, why is it to high?
                          the motherboard board is LA-G881P.
                          thank you.

                          here is some measurements :
                          • VIN = 16,3 V
                          • VREG3 = 3,299 V
                          • VREG5 = 5,203 V
                          • SW2 (repos) = 3,423 V, pikes at ~16,4 V
                          • VBST2 = 8,592 V → VBST2 − SW2 = ≈ 5,17 V
                          • VO1 = 5,28 V (stable)
                          • EN1 = 3,08 V, EN2 = 3,04 V
                          • VFB1/VFB2 ≈ 2,1 V
                          ...
