hello i m new in badcap
i receive this board , asus maximus formula x38 , i going to send some picture after
ineed to know if is it possible to take of (desolder the socket and solder new one )

i think it is vrey hard task to do ... with rework air hot may be is possible ...
if someone have to making this experience tell me

Well, I have seen someone (was it on this forum?) that desoldered only one of the LGA legs and put a new one in it's place

But it must be tremendeously difficult!
You could also check out the pinout of the socket to see which pin it matches on the CPU, if it is only one of the dozens of grounding or VCC pins then it wont hurt to try without it...

new mainboard.

if it was bent, you could CAREFULLY bend it back with a needle. I saved a nice SM board from the scrap bin this way.

if broken, find a new board. preferably not asus trash.

if you've got the equipment, you can buy LGA775 sockets on ebay (both surface mount and thru hole)

does any think a piece of wire suitably trimmed could be jammed in the missing pin socket?

The thing is that the wire would need to be "springy" to the right extent or you would just pop of the connection plate of the cpu when you force it down. Seen cpus wich have been forced in the wrong way and they are missing pads. In that case it luckily worked without the bad though.

Are you having a problem, or just noticed the broken contact?

Check the pinout for the CPU/Socket and see if the missing one is a needed line or is just a duplicate.

don't jam wire. if you broke it and do not have smd tools and the knowhow to use them, game over. you need a new board. be more careful next time.

if it is a ground, you might be ok. if not, STBY.

Yeah, well it's Intel's fault for pulling the sheets from their site. Gotta chase them across the net. Like leaving CPU datasheets was gonna kill them... :p

I've bent quite a few messy LGA775 sockets back to life - it can be done with patience, a sharp point and a good light source.

bent yes, broken no. I HAVE fixed bent LGA pins before... just ask topcat about the supermicro pdsge he sent me... 4 bent pins and a broken ground pin. fexed the bent pin with a needle and careful bending. the pins are sooo fragile... practicing on a dead LGA board helped.

I also fixed a board with a bent pin this way... when i went to pull my intel dp35dp off the self, i found a bent pin. fixed and working... in my incomplete main rig.
