My PC doesn't boot -No BIOS on screen

I changed the hard drive a month ago and updated to WinXP.

It is a pc I built in 2004- P4/2.5 with ECS motherboard (L4....)

Its been working fine - I shut it down last night and it doesn't boot today.

The light comes own and I hear the fan. I don't hear a "clicking" sound - Monitor is blank - No BIOS appears on the monitor.

    What is happening?

sciconf9, you were over at the craiglist forum weren't you? If so, glad to see you came over. These guys are professional and very helpful. Be sure to check out all the boards here - there's a variety.

For starters, check out the pictures of bad capacitors (there's tons of pictures on this site! LOL) Here's one thread with pictures: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=424

Check out your board and your power supply unit. Post back with questions and pictures of your board, etc... if you have some.

Re: My PC doesn't boot -No BIOS on screen

        Welcome to the forums

You say its been working fine for the last month

Did you try and reset the BIOS to default ?
(jumper or whatever on the MB)

I would as suggested above check caps
        .
The system is about 3 years old and stuffed caps is a good possibility depending on the motherboard/psu

Has it been flaky at all
rebooting or freezing over the last year or so, if it has then caps are defiantly on the cards

Also what type of Power supply have you got in the box.

If you have a spare PSU that will run the system and you know that it works try that

Also check plug unplug connectors. data and power on the HDD etc

Make model of psu model of MB.....maybe even what the HDD brand and model is

since you say no clicking and I am assuming you meant the HDD clatter as it starts up.

You now need to work out what part of the system is giving you problems.

I had a Gigabyte motherboard a while back which didn't boot and only the fans spun. It turned out that the Deer rebranded PSU killed the Intel ICH5 southbridge.
