    Epox 8RDA+ completed.

My 8RDA+ was the first board I replaced caps. I only replaced the critical caps of VRM and memory. The other day I looked at a remaining Teapo and thought I should finish replacing the caps. Today the computer would not start with the keyboard code into the bios and I noticed that Teapo bulging right next to the bios chip. So out came the board and replaced the 1000u 6.3V Teapo and seven GSC 470u 16V (replaced with 1000u 6.3V Samxon because they are 5 volt supply caps).

The system is now up add running again.

Never ever assume that you can replace just few of the big bulging caps. All of them has to go...

I have issues with my PC chips M810 mobo like messages "LOW CMOS battery" an losing the keaboard and mouse frequently on reboots - just thanks to the not-yet recapped 22uF Teapos.

I bet that when I recap then, it stop.

i had similar bugs in a msi 694t pro till i replaced the tiny 10uf@16v sm lytics.
noise in the onboard sound too.
forget esr testing in circut.they checked fine due to good caps further down the line.a scope showed crap on +5 at the sound chip.
all these caps were open when pulled.replaced with sm tants.

That SMD caps are often bad on MSI boards.

            kc8adu -

Well, I did not tested the sound output at all, as the mobo is and will be used for folding only, yet losing the keaboard and mice on reboots/power on is pretty annoyng.
Especially when the original bios suxx and I find great moded one, with ton's of options and overclocking added. I mean - I dying to test it, but I can't, as the keyboard is not recognized anymore...
It partly worked week before, but after week of folding (no PS/2 device connected) these Teapos seems finally giving up completely. Big Pope was somewhat convinced that it might be the resistor, thanks to his earlier experience with Asus board with the same problem fixable by replacing the resistor, however I dubt that in just a week the resistor should damage himself that much.
But if this is dying oldie (board is made in 1994...!) Teapo and I can even smell the 15 of them, I'm convinced that they are the culprit. I can't prove it yet, as I had the replacement caps comming, twice to be sure, but both sources give up. As the Canadian, as well as Big Pope told me recently, that these small RS Samxons will be not sooner that November 3rd...

all these caps were open when pulled.replaced with sm tants
And that does fix the problem with losing keaboard/mice?
            And the sound, right?

Hmmm, I can source tants locally (at least I hope, damn it) - that give me an idea, thanks!

/me off to shop for tantal caps

              Re: Epox 8RDA+ completed.

Back. Damn. They aren't only want shockingly high price for these 22uF 16V tantals, they have only 14 of them. And I need 15...
They want 12Kc per piece! 1$ is 23Kc, so, if it is 24, then they asking me half dollar per one tantal cap! Hard to believe, eh? Maybe in a week or two they got the last need one... I almost pay that price
              ...

Big Pope make me measure the voltages on the resistor going to PS/2 port and protecting the South Bridge.

W/O anything connected to the PS/2 ports, the measurments as follow:
              1) - 5V
              2) - 5V
              3) - 5V
              4) - 5V

When I connected keyboard, it goes:
              1) - 4.93V
              2) - 28mV
              3) - 5V
              4) - 5V

With keyboard AND mouse, it goes like this:
              1) - 5V (I checked this one four times...)
              2) - 30mV
              3) - 5V
              4) - 4.88V

Normal Samsung PS/2 keyboard used as well, as Logitech MX510 blue (if that matter ) mouse
I think these are normal results, considering the mice got thru the PS/2 to USB converter and it has to consume some electricity - neverless 4.88V is IMHO enough for good operation, is it?

elbrute - don't complain your pics are pretty good still - it is all in the hands and lighting.
For example Big Pope pics are far worser. From start I thought he use some "digi-cam" built in mobile phone
My Nikon CoolPix 4300 is good, tough even the best camera in lame hands produce blurry ughly images It is all about in lighting and scene, not with camera - unless you got crappy Olympus or something low-cost, of course...

I'm much better when photographing nature (and as part of nature I mean mainly girlies), but I'm affraid my sick perverse needs aren't welcome there, so let's settle for safe nature:

I was hoping you didn't have some fancy studio setup. This means there's hope for me. I guess I need to get a good studio light.

                        by iMic
                        Hi folks,

I have a couple of IBM NetVista desktop computers from around 2000-2001. They have Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) Pro286i motherboards, 733MHz Pentium III processors, and a whole bunch of bad Teapo capacitors. One board has visibly bad and venting capacitors, while the other doesn't look too bad so far.

The board with venting caps works fine, while the good looking board occasionally refuses to power on unless it's left for about 30 seconds after connecting the power - even with a known good power supply. (I am however aware I'll need to check the PSU...

Epox EP 85 MVP3C-M - 3.54v Vcore regardless of jumpers
                        by kotel studios
                        Hi,

Recently I got an Epox EP-85 MVP3C-M board from scrap. After fixing the broken caps I powered it on without CPU and the jumpers set to 60Mhz FSB and 2x multiplier.
Sadly, Vcc3 was stuck at 3.54v regardless of jumpers. Vcc2 (Vi/o I think) was also the same voltage.
So, I've returned to the original configuration I got the board in - 100Mhz FSB and 4x multiplier. Voltages haven't changed at all.
                        What I've tried so far:
replace the original N-MOSFETs with beefier 60V ones for testing
Resolder the resistors near the Vcore Jumper block
                        Short Vcore...

Is there anybody here who could tell me what are the two caps marked bellow? Or atleast send me a picture of those two caps from their board. Size wise I think those will be 2200uF10v, the same as in the CPU VRM, but not sure....

                        by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
