MSI RX 470 ARMOR 4GB with limited frequency

    Hi folks,
I have got an MSI RX 470 ARMOR 4GB GPU with a problem and I dont know where can I start repair and if it is worth it.
The card erlier life is unknown.

The problem is that: when I start gpu test (Furmark Heaven Benchmark) no problem - no artifacts or something - but after a little time and then the pc is rebooting.
I tested the gpu with tserver:
The test with maxmimum memory frequency is OK
    ./agt -mem=1650
    ./tserver -boardtest=memfa

But, if I increase the engine frequency I have got error. Whit this parameters the test is freezing:
    ./agt -eng=1230
    ./tserver -boardtest=memfa

I loaded the bios to bios editor and I saw this table (in attachment).
So I decreased the engine freq and my case is eng=1147MHz is fully OK.
In windows I fixed the maximum freq to 1147MHz and now every test is fine.

    My questions are:
    - what is wrong in gpu? I cant imagine where can I start.
    - is it fixable or is this gpu dying?
    - could I modify the bios and set the 1147MHz limit?

    Thank in advance the help.

Re: MSI RX 470 ARMOR 4GB with limited frequency

Is it possible you only get a crash at idle speed when the voltage goes low? That table of voltage is suspicious to me. If you are locking the speed in Windows maybe it never goes low?

I would get a compatible BIOS from tech powerup .com and open it with the editor and see if your BIOS is correct.

Alternatively you could make it so the lowest mhz/mv setting is the same as the second lowest, so maybe it won't crash? I am more familiar with Nvidia, I don't know much about the AMD hacking.

Whether it is worth it depends on what you have a use for it, and if you like fixing; spending many hours working on problem. I bought RX580 2048SP 8GB for $40, and saw 5700xt for $97, so the usefulness of your card may be limited in future.

      Thank you for your answer.
I have got explanation from an expert: that problem means the degradation of gpu chip.
The solution is the modified bios with limited frequency or the gpu chip replacing.

How Can I test PWM DM0365R?
        by chth96
        Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor....

test active pfc power with lamp test
        by khelane
        Hello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
        Is there a way...

Mats / mods: detected and repaired GPU fault. Cant seem to test after!
        by chronic519
        Hello.

GPU came in, green lines. Spent lots of time using to get the Mats / mods drive working (found on youtube).
Found issue with a RAM block
        Replaced, green lines gone.
Trying to test again, assuming getting the false positive. Originally had over 1K on a single bank. Now getting tosses low between banks.
Used a good card to test and same results low errors 32+.

I am just search for some form of command to do a full test on the GPU.
I just ran the mats command with my good GPU and passed after roughly 40 min.
        The repaired one, ran...

Lg TCon test pins for screen test
        by alltvrepairs
        Hi,
i have a 65 Panasonic TX-65HX710E using vestel 17MB170 main and Lg tcon.

Few drops of water fell probably near COF and have no display. Tried removing tabs but no.part of display present as if tcon fuse open. However 12v is present and tcon can be felt warm enough that supplies are present. Backlight and sound ok.

Anyone knows if this TCon 6870c-0805A has any special test pins for rgb test?

        Appreciate your help....

memory mod for amd radeon r7 260x
        by kokodin
Hello, for almost a year i been trying to make something that seems impossible, or my testing software is lying to me and it works only i can't see that.
I been trying to mod a memory on radeon hd7790 or 260x from 2 to 4 gb, but it doesn't seems to be as simple as i first thought.
In theory 2 workstation graphic cards using the same graphical processor have 4gb of memory firepro w4300 has 4 256x32b layout and W5100 has 8x 128x16b layout all use gddr5 memory and internals of the bioses seems to be very similar so i was trying to wing it , but so far it seems either tserver can't show...
