Need to choose between two cable modems - Netgear or Arris/Motorola?

I think my SB6120 is dying after several years of good service after paying $15 used for it. I get good speed but it drops out a lot and it didn't use to do that. It might be a problem on the ISP's end (Comcast) but when the internet stops working and I go to modem's IP it shows that the uptime is 0 minutes meaning it rebooted. The modem is on a UPS so I know it's not a power problem.

Both of those modems are on Comcast's approved modems list for DOCSIS 3.0 and IPv6 certification, and both are in stock at the local Best Buy for purchase today.

Since Best Buy price matches Amazon I could get the Netgear for $99+tax and the Motorola/Arris for $123+tax

I know Motorola/Arris is the more popular choice but I've been happy with Netgear products in the past, and I currently use a Netgear router (Nighthawk R7000)

I'm definitely buying today. Both options are probably fine but I'm leaning towards the Netgear since it's cheaper for the same exact thing basically. Just need to hear others opinions or real world experiences with these models?

    Thanks!

I can see them all through the vent and they look OK. Look like UCC to me (brown with Mercedes top).

I am using 12V 3.5A Wearnes power supply with it. Not the original but it's been working OK and runs only a little warm not hot.

I bought the Netgear. It didn't work. I returned it. I bought the Arris. It's not fucking working either. I hate Comcast.

Try the old tried and true motorola surfboard. I have been using the same one for over 2 years with my current isp and it actually was a comcast modem prior to me aquiring it.

The power supply could be the culprit. But are you sure you can see ALL the caps in the modem? Could be one right behind the power jack that is to blame.

Re: Need to choose between two cable modems - Netgear or Arris/Motorola?

I had a weird experience with Comcast modems, recently--my Asus WiFi card doesn't seem to want to talk to their modems. I was trying to use the upstairs neighbors Comcast connection, and they are using a TG862G/CT... very typical. I have an Asus PCE-N53, and I could connect with great signal, but my internet just basically wouldn't work, it would error out and time out, etc. Once in a great while it would magically work for a minute or two, but then go away, again.

I chalked all this up to the fact that her modem/WiFiRouter combo unit is upstairs. But my wife's connection with her laptop, which was directly underneath the room with the router in it, would sort of work, but was slow and buggy. Her phone didn't want to connect much at all.

Anyway, come last week I decided I can't stand it anymore and ordered my own Comcast. They came out and installed, I have my own modem, but forgot to disable it on my Sister-in-law's account so I'm waiting on that. In the meantime I am renting the same TG862G/CT. It's WiFi was kinda crappy feeling on the wife's laptop, and on our phones, and just like the neighbors WiFi, my PC with PCE-N53 got great signal, but even 15 feet away, there was just no internet; it would time out/error out.

So I put my Belkin DB750, which I planned to use with my modem, into the back of their modem/router combo unit, and BOOM perfect connection, fast and solid. But I don't know why my PCE-N53 is more problematic than all the other network interfaces in the house.

Got no idea what these are.I got semi lucky and found a 22F44 on a donor. Unfortunately the 22F43 is already missing. If anybody knows what these are and find a cross would be greatly appreciated!

Motorola Minitor V pager no audio / sound repair
                    by CapLeaker
Got a bunch of Motorola Minitor V pagers from Fire Departments here trying to fix some out of the non working ones. These pagers are known for either no sound / audio or they don’t charge. The internet is full of suggestions like metal shavings inside the speaker?
Anyway so I took one of the Minitor’s apart for my amusement in order to see why that is and nobody can fix em. There are no service manuals or schematics for these that I know of. However… I did find the problem!

On the main board of this unit where the speaker connects to there is a metal shield....

                    Netgear JGS516PE Switch Fan Replacement
                    by shovenose
I got a free Netgear JGS516PE PoE switch and it works fine but the fan makes a grinding sound.

It uses a 12V 3 pin fan with a non standard pin out. So I took a Noctua fan and moved the wires around in the connector to make it work.

Unfortunately, the fan spins for just a couple seconds before it turns off and the Fan Fault LED comes on.

I think it's stupid they designed it to stop powering the fan when it detects a fault but I guess that's what they chose to do.

Instead of spending $30 on the correct replacement fan, does anyone have a clean...
