    ESR-1221N Dissembly

    ESR1221N Dissembly

    1 x Jackon 16v 1000uF
    1 x Gemcon 6.3v 470uf

Comes with switching power supply (not checked).. Inspected the router board.. Looked fine as this is a new router no recap planned yet.. It looks like Jackon and Gemcon both had problems in the past.. I wonder how these will hold up.. This is a micro router/case so needs mini caps... I have camera phone pictures to follow..

1 screw under sticker needs to come out.. If you can't loosen top case tabs use an old credit card where the lan ports are.. On the side without antennae..

    See ya,

I've never seen bad Gemcon caps. Actually, I've never seen those outside of that Japanese cap manufacturer database.

I would replace the Jackoff cap, but I don't think people consider them to be that bad. I replace as many of them as I can because I've seen so many fail.

Thanks for the info.. I might just recap it for fun.. It's only 2 caps anyways..

Why does my ISP router hate my "homemade" power supply??
        by double_DD
        Hi all,

It's gonna be a long intro, so please buckle in, as it's a problem that's been bugging me for several days now. Thanks in advance.

So, I have 2 modems/routers, whatever the proper nomenclature is, one from ISP and one mine. I want to power them via USB-C rather then their original mains adapters (for reasons, that are hard to explain to sane people). Both routers come with 12V/3A mains adapters.
For this purpose I acquired USB-C charger with 250W and 5 ports, 2 of which can supply max 20V/3A. Since 12V isn't a standard PD voltage option (and to future proof,...

UPNP, "Standards" and hardware that implements it
        by EasyGoing1
I've been writing a program in Java that is really just a robust front end for the use of GitHiub Gists, providing a nice interface for developers to organize, maintain and access code snippets that we tend to need from time to time in our different projects.

One of the features of the program is the ability for people to share their Gists with others who use the program over a LAN or over the Internet. The program just basically serializes a Java class and encrypts it then wraps it into a UDP datastream and sends it over to another user.

So I decided to implement UPNP...

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping
        by hinisa
I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

After testing with different power supply adapters and concluding it wasn't the issue I finally opened the case and this was the situation:

Anyway I proceed to clean up the mess and replace all caps but unfortunately it made the situation worse. Now router can't even boot, either it freezes during...

Synology MR2200ac mesh router, UART connection - login details?
        by spleenharvester
This particular unit powers up, LEDs behave normally, but broadcasts no SSID, will not mesh with any other routers. Plugging in an ethernet cable from a Windows laptop results in "unidentified network" with an autoconfigured IP address and no response to pinging 192.168.1.1.

I was able to log into serial/UART by connecting the 6-pin header to the GPIO on a Raspberry Pi Zero W (GND to GND, TxD to RxD, RxD to TxD, no connection between +3.3V as it is supplied on both sides) using Minicom, command:

        Code:
sudo minicom --baudrate 115200 --device /dev/ttyS0
        ...
