LOL! Yeah it sucks when a bulb blows right in the middle of something.
Anyways my brother lives about 45 minutes away so I didn't go all the way over there just to take his monitor a part again, so I decided to do a visual on the backlights to see if I could see anything physical. The short answer is I would like to apologize for not heeding the advise of earlier posters that suggested the backlights being the problem. When I took the top light off they were actually burnt in off at one end the bottom ones while not as bad I could see a hairline crack on one at the end. So it looks like the backlights may in fact be the problem. Again I apologize as I can be extremely anal and dismiss good ideas, a mistake that I shall not make again.

Does anyone know where I can get some new backlights?

    Thanks
    Chuck

You will need to measure the diameter of the tubes and the total length.

      This site sells them:

      http://www.ccfldirect.com/ccfls.html

I'm sure typing CCFL lamps on google will yield more results as well.

Apparently these are an odd ball size or something, 2mm x 417mm, I suppose my micrometer may be a little off though because I can't find anything close to this length in 2mm. Closest thing I can find is 2.6mm! Think it would pose a problem if I use the 2.6mm It looks like I would have the room.

          Hey guys,
          I got a ProView PL926FW
Google didn't provide any help with this one. I just ripped it apart and i saw 4 x 470uf Capcitors dead and 1 220uf Capcitor dead. Theese are samxon capacitors. It probally died because of the heat.I repalced it with 85c ones because i ran out of the 105c ones. It worked perfectly fine. I don't know if hardware are similar but they look similar on the outside. Just less connectors?

Re: Proview PL926Wbi 19" LCD no picture

If they were Samxon caps they probably were GF series Samxon is a known good brand but that series was one of their bad apples.

Like Nichicon's HM series screwup in 2004. They sent a bunch of 360s to their grave.

Now even after Nichicon cleared up the problem the 360s now use Rubycons .

I would be careful with 85 C caps it gets pretty toasty inside LCD inverters and I wouldn't be suprised if they bulged too in time.

Most likely the caps you replaced the old ones with were General Purpose caps.

The caps that should be in there are low ESR caps.

From my experience I have never seen a Low ESR cap rated at 85 C.

I personally use Panasonic FCs for inverter recaps.

i just recapped a gateway 21" widescreen that was full of samxon gf.
every one of em bad.even the small ones in the primary.
late 06 date on the unit.
agreed 85c caps are likely general pupose and will not last here.
at least you know it works and is worth a parts order to badcaps or digikey.

I've been gone some time and want to ask about the samxon caps.
The gf's are suspect, assumed bad?

I know this was posted last year but I gotta give it a shot. like chuck567, I have the exact same monitor with the same problem kinda. When i plug the monitor in the comp. It turns on for like 3-4 sec. then goes blank. While its on the whole screen is a light pink tint. From other forums, some think its the bulbs and some think its the caps. Right now I have everything completely apart. (I can take pics if needed) I'm not sure where to start. You people are saying its the caps but how can I tell if the caps are bad or not? I also did find a site where i can buy the bulbs if needed. Hope someone reads this soon. Thanks!!

From what you posted that sounds like faulty CCFLs for sure
Can you get another backlight unit that works to connect to Inverter to see if they stay on, also there is a kit for testing backlights, info is on the forum, someone will give you info on that as I have never used one

CCFLs emitting pink or red hue is a sign that they have reached the end of their useful life.

An external test of the backlights would confirm this as Bob said. Since you want to make sure the inverter is driving the CCFLs properly.

If the lights are shot it probably is the inverter protection kicking in due to the bad backlights.

Replacing CCFLs is delicate work and you don't want to rip into your panel if you don't have to.

I've seen this on several units of this model, and on almost every Polaroid TLA-XXXXX LCD TV I had come to check (except one). The red/pink hue indicates one of the lamps is dying.

Wow guys, thanks for all the responses. I'm very delicate when taking apart monitors. I've fixed some in the past with known bad caps and soldered them myself and poof, works! but this is my first encounter with bulbs. I'm at the point where I have the brackets off the edges of the LCD and seeing the bulbs itself. I was seeing if I could buy some locally but store such as Menards, Ace Hardware etc... didn't have them. So I guess I gotta purchase some from online. I see that each bulb ranges from about $6 and up. Does anyone know a good, cheap site I can buy some off of? I figured out the size I need is 2.6mm(D) x 414mm(L) bulbs. Again thanks for all the help your offering, i'll be sure to...."pay it forward" (haha)

I've got a 22" Proview (2200W) on the bench, it would stay lit for 10 seconds, then go black. (With a pink tint when lit). Connected my "test ccfl's" and they stay lit indefinately. The top ccfl inverter was running hot, (dark spot on the PCB around the driver MOSFET). Caps test ok. Too much current draw from the top ccfl. I then left the tester on the bottom inverter and connected the original (top) 22" tube, same thing, 10 secs to black. Then dismantled the screen assy and found the top ccfl was black on the end, so it is def. bad. Now looking for new/good used ccfl's.

Not necessarily. Do you have a spare CCFL?

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                                      Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                                      First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                      Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                                      by TR103
                                      Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                                      - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                      - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                                      - it keeps rebooting
                                      - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                      - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                      - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                                      - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                                      by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Hello, Last week I bought the 50" Sony X80j tv everything was working fine, untill I plugged the tv in a ups power supply 650va the tv remote control became unresponsive and the TV became laggy after a while the picture quality isn't the same as before the tv seems less brighter and the picture is somehow blurry, people's faces don't look as natural as before, there is a mini orange-pink tint to the edge of people's faces especially in NETFLIX Dolby Vision like in One Piece ep1 Alvida skin tone, my intention was to protect the tv but something went wrong I checked the ups with a multimeter,...
