HP LA1905wg LCD monitor no backlight

    hi

i have repaired hundreds of no backlight lcd monitors.......typically its bad caps

however i have come upon 5 of these lcd monitors that when powered on the backlight comes on for 3 sec and then goes off.....the display is there but no backlight....all are same model# and have same symptom no backlight

i tested all of the caps out of circuit using esr meter and they all test and look good

    im stumped

any ideas?....i have the boards out and can test any component if advised to do so.....

see photo of power supply/inverter board

Try using test lamps yet to really help narrowing down to find out if it is the board or the lamps?

      hi thanks

i do not have a test lamp....and this is just odd because they are all doing the same thing...and i have never come upon bad lamps on over 100 repairs on lcd monitors they have all been bad caps on inverter side of power supply....but i figured since its so common on this model maybe someone has some experience they could direct me on the faulty component

If you fix a lot of unit having test lamps makes much faster in narrowing down the problem.

You can also then check the resistance of the high voltage windings of the inverter transformer so you can compare the readings between the working unit and the no-working unit.

ok i just tested backlight by taking a good monitor and plugging in the backlight cables from the bad monitor to the good monitor and the backlight comes on fine so it now tells me its not a tube issue its a power board issue....

other question ..when is it safe to test the transformer?

with unplugged of course but do i have to wait some time after powering off?

No waiting needed, the drive circuit will shutdown when power is removed but you should discharge the main filter cap (using resistor) that can have up to 325VDC on it.

Post a photo of the underside of the board so we can see which transformer pins connect to where.

Also, have you checked the inverter section for bad solder joints?

You're very lucky! (Or I'm very unlucky!) About half my LCD repairs have been bad lamps.

i have not come across any with bad lamps as of yet all have been bad caps on boards....so this one is stumping me....the lamps are good though i used another good monitor and plugged the power cables into the bad monitor and the backlights powered on fine

so its a power supply /inverter issue

checked for obvious bad solder joints and all are good....

maybe transformers are bad?? going to research how to test

Find out the correct resistance of the windings and measure them, see if they are correct.

If you have another known working one to compare with, or can find the information online. Search the number on the side of the transformer in Google.

                              by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

Please I need help with the above monitor.

Below is the summary of what happened and what I have done:

The monitor started by turning off 2 seconds after it was turned on. It displayed with a backlight when it turned on. However, the standby light remains on after it is turned off on its own, I have to press the power button again to turn it on, but it will go back to standby after 2 seconds.

The backlight driver IC is 0b3350cp.

I applied a 370k SMD resistor on the CMP pin which is pin 6, while the other...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Hello, I'm working on a new deskmod pc project and have a problem with my monitor, an AOC U34G3XM, well, I may have bricked it.

The monitor was dismanteled and the separate parts parts integrated in the desk. the screen panel alone is on the upper part, and main board/video board + power board on the back of the desk (not enough place on the cover to fit it)
At first everything was working smoothly, then I decided to change the connexion between the video board and the screen for a longer one. Still working fine

                              Hello everyone,

The monitor has no visible external damage and has not been dropped. Currently, the backlight is on, but no image is displayed. I have replaced the power and HDMI cables, and connected it to my laptop (the graphics card detects the monitor, but no image appears). The service menu is also unresponsive. Could anyone share insights on troubleshooting or repair options for this issue?
