    Samsung S24C230BL DVI problem

I have picked up this monitor from Ebay, with a description that it will turn on and off.
I have tested it and found out, that on the VGA input works great, but on the DVI input, the DVI logo flashes for a second and it keeps repeating this on and off over and over.
I have tried different PC, different cable(though the same type from monoprice).
It could be that the cable is missing some pins maybe?
The monitor did not come with power adapter, or any other cable.
I have "repaired" other monitors, which required firmware update, specially the A and B series, but this is the C series and there in no firmware available for this model.
    Any input would be appreciated.

If you can, alternative try a DVI to VGA adapter and use your normal VGA cable and see if the DVI port works to rule out the possibility of the faulty DVI cable.

The Samsung video boards i've seen usually have a single chip; meaning the DVI and VGA share the same chipset and what differentiate the signals is the embedded firmware on the chip.

The problem with the adapter is, that it has those four pins next to the big flat one and the monitor doesn't have those four holes.

There is one without, but I'm looking around Amazon and reviewers say, that they don't work, I don't understand why.
              I'm still looking for one.

did you try restarting the computer while the monitor is on and the dvi is connected to see if the computer boot screen shows up at all.

If you are running a computer that can run two screens, does your computer recognize the monitor in the display settings ?
If your computer only has this screen, if the computer is running and if it has sound and the dvi is not connected yet, does it beep when you plug in the dvi ?

Thanks guys, I will look into that adapter and those tests too.
I haven't tried two monitors at the same time yet. Good point.
I haven't heard any beep, but I will try again.

Boot screen doesn't show up at all.
I have tried it, with dual monitors and Windows recognizes two monitors.
When I plug in DVI, it beeps.
If I try switching the monitor's input, it just switches back and forth between analog and DVI.

                        This might help http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answe...i-and-dvi-d%3F
Looks like the dvi-D on the monitor is digital in only, so as long as the video card outputs the digital signal it should work. thats why most adaptors don't work because they convert the dvi-I analog signal only to vga. or vga to dvi-I.

My PC in the garage, it's an old Asus PC with a Sapphire X1650 Pro 512MB, that can drive two displays simultaneously. Output is Dual Link DVI-D output.

I'm thinking, that it couldn't have a corrupt firmware, as the A and B series monitors?

Update the firmware. common problem on these. I have an S24A350 on my desk right now that had a similar issue (flashing on and off.) New firmware fixed it right away. The firmware can be updated over a VGA cable from a Windows PC. Download the software from the Samsung website.

Looks like you may be having issues on the main board. possibly a bad transistor or diode or inductor coil right next to the dvi input.
Will have to open it up and post some good pictures of it

I have repaired already three monitors myself, with the firmware update. I will be getting another one, in a couple of days, which is an A model.
I have even tried the A firmware on it and it said that the latest firmware it's already installed.
To me it seems like the same situation, but there is no firmware for this monitor.
It looks like, it is a Canadian model monitor.
I will have to open it up then.

Try checking the protection diodes on the signal pins of the DVI to see if any one of them shorted out.

                                      Re: Samsung S24C230BL DVI problem

I have come back to this monitor and now it won't even boot up at all. It's dead.
I have tried different power adapter and it's still dead.
I have the monitor apart and I would even buy another board, but nobody sells anything for this monitor.(BN41-10423M)
Samsung parts, sells an empty EEPROM IC(GD25Q40BSIGY).
The EEPROM has to be pre-programmed, or I can just replace it, with a blank one and when it will boot up, the software will be loaded into it?

                                        Re: Samsung S24C230BL DVI problem

Somewhere, I have read, that by removing the EEPROMM, the EEPROM will be reset.
                                        So, I did it.
Now it turns on, but only the backlight it's visible, no image.
It seems like it turns on and off, with the power button, it senses the laptop when I plug in the VGA cable(screen blacks out for a couple of seconds), Windows recognizes it.
There is anything else, that I can do?
