Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Got the new chip fitted today, the battery is now receiving 3.3V when plugged in and the black lit keyboard lights up but that's about it. The charging light isn't even lit up. The red output wires from the battery are still on 0.228V, I've managed to get that upto 9.XV by poking around the mosfets, I guess I turned one on by the gate but it made no difference and didn't stay that way for long.
The cpu is getting warm.
Do you think this is because the EC needs to be programmed?...

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Perfect, I have now removed it and the resistance rises rather than sitting at 2 Ohms. I stopped when it got to 90K.
Ill get one of these chips ordered and will update you once it arrives. Fingers crossed it programs itself like you said
Thanks again for all the help buddy!...

It doesn't heat up excessively at 1A 1V - my power supply will only give it 0.27A though no matter what I set it to. It's rated for 10ARe: Asus FX505G - no power to batter... rated for 10ARe: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Sorry for the delay, I had to go home last night.
So I've tested all those pins, they're all receiving 0.27V and are reading 2 Ohms each.
Guessing that's not good?
Where did you learn all this stuff if you don't mind me asking? Never would of gotten this far without you man...

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
I'm getting 20V upto these mosfets here: https://imgur.com/a/Hi0HOqw it's the same with or without the battery connected.
I can't get to the button to check the voltage unfortunately, I'm guessing it is connected to one of the pins of the ribbon that comes in through the right hinge but I've no idea which. https://imgur.com/a/1ZIgJ7e
I've checked the voltage on the EC though, it's an IT8987 here's the pinout: https://imgur.com/a/juTs0Bo pin 11 is...

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Brilliant.
This battery is strange, I fitted it and it started reading 9.5V, it did the same once disconnected. So I put everything back together and tried again but now the battery is back reading 0V both disconnected and connected
No it doesn't turn on either...

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Well that chip has definitely fixed some of it as I'm now getting voltage on the gates of those 2 mosfets and 20V is flowing through them. It wasn't before. I've traced the voltage and it stops at 2 other mosfets and turns into 0.2V on their outputs. These are located right next to the battery connection. Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Bad news buddy, it's exactly the same 🙁
I've done a few of these chips before on xbox's so am not too bad with them. They are a pain though at times. Couple of pics here: https://imgur.com/a/wf6SON7 I've got an endoscope attachment for my microscope so have checked all the solder connections and they're good.Re: Asus FX505G - no power to batter...fore on xbox's...

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
The only pin connected to ground other than ground is pin 15 BATPRESS - Active low battery present input signal. Low indicates battery present, high indicates battery absent. The device exits the LEARN function and turns on ACFET/RBFET within 100 µs if BATPRES pin is pulled high. Upon BATPRES from LOW to HIGH, battery charging and hybrid power boost mode are disabled.
I'm guessing low is 0V but as the battery isn't present it should be showing as high?
I've just removed the chip...

Not sure what I'm supposed to be comparing the voltages to in the datasheet, the names of the pins don't match the electrical characteristics, here's the voltages though: https://imgur.com/a/cc2bAXoRe: Asus FX505G - no power to batter...gur.com/a/cc2b...

Ok I'll get to work on that, those pictures were before I cleaned it. Here's one from afterwards: https://imgur.com/a/xvNowucRe: Asus FX505G - no power to batter.../xvNowuc...

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Sorry for the delay, just got in now. The chip is a BQ 24780S which is a battery charge controller, would make sense this thing is at fault. Really appreciate your help so far buddy!
I'll get it all...Last edited by CptChronic; 06-16-2023, 05:48 AM.

Re: Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Haha my bad
I've got some closeups of the DC in and other places. Didn't see your message about that chip though so haven't got one as I'm at home now. I'll get the details on it tomorrow
I did notice the dirt on that chip when first looking, I'm pretty sure it's just dust, there's a bit more in other areas.

Asus FX505G - no power to battery and won't turn on
Hi,
My laptop won't turn on anymore, I am getting 20V from the charger into the first mosfet but there's no voltage on the source so nothing coming out the other side of the mosfet. So the battery isn't charging.
There are no shorts on either mosfets or anywhere else I can find. I've tried looking through the schematic but it makes no sense to me. The board view pdf is a waste of time too.
I took it apart earlier and had the board on the dwask, was poking around with the multimeter looking for shorts and then retested to see if voltage was getting to the...Last edited by CptChronic; 06-15-2023, 08:44 AM.
