Problem with Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454

Hi guys, hoping you can diagnose the problem I'm having with my monitor. It's a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 aka HM903DT I've had from 2003/4. Awesome monitor and picture quality to this day even with it's current problem. So, the problem is this, yesterday whilst playing Batman at 1600x1200 @100hz the screen suddenly squeezed in on itself horizontally leaving 2 huge black bars either side of the image, see pic 1. I closed the game and went back into windows where the native resolution is 1280x1024 @100hz and noticed the screen was now slightly oversized whilst also being stretched in the middle and somewhat squeezed up on the left and right sides, see pic 2. The problem persisted after entering back into a game so I knew something was broken in the monitor.

Can anyone provide me with info into what has happened and also if you believe it's repairable, possibly blown caps or something else that could be serviceable??? I would love to keep this monitor as the picture is still fantastic for its age and really don't want to replace it yet if it is repairable.
Any help much appreciated and thankyou.

CRT monitor.Normally if the screen does not fill width wise,ie your Black bars either side, then that looks like a reduction in High Voltage, but these would be symetrical and straight lines. Its a long time since i worked on CRT Monitors or TVs, but no doubt some member will be able to help more.

ic401 controls the ew/pincusion, on mine i had dry joints on the tube base panel and the deflection yoke connectors, blanket resolder cured it.

Thank you Rtech and Sparks88 for the replies.
Sparks please could you explain to me like I'm a 5 year old what you are describing I have next to zero experience/knowledge in electronics but am really wanting to learn. I did download the service manual from http://elektrotanya.com/, not that it made much sense to me, but from what I can gather, and please correct me if I'm wrong, IC401 is an integrated circuit board or PCB? The tube base panel is the PCB that attaches to the end of the tube? Deflection yoke connectors are what control the amount of convergence i.e. controls how the picture gets aligned onto the tube? Are these on the main PCB? Dry joints I presume means the solder has dried up and isn't making a good connection anymore(oxidation?) and blanket solder means just reflow the solders?!

I might tomorrow if I get a spare hour or 2 try to dismantle the case as I have been watching a few videos on discharging the CRT and it seems fairly straight forward and look to see if there are any obvious busted caps on the main PCB.

        Down the rabbit-hole we go!

Looks like this is possibly a Sony Trinitron in disguise. If it is, post some pictures, and I may be able to walk you through. In any case, though, just open it and slowly work your way in - this will get you familiar with CRT monitors. The service manual may have proper disassembly steps inside, so have a quick glance at it first.

Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest other than what Sparks88 already suggested - just look for dry joints.

Rtech gives a good clues about reduced high voltage and I want to add extra information maybe the problem is on horizontal output section. maybe a changed value caps or resistor, but your second picture looks like just a cold solder joint. I am not experienced, just give a clues and hope you could fix it. be careful when discharge the tube. You can try search my country site because there are still many CRT tv and monitor technician here.

              Seem's like a overheating problem.

I recommend this, turn off the monitor for a good 30 minutes. Turn it on and notice if the image has been improved, if the image get's distorted after being turned on for xx amount of minutes, then it is a overheating problem.

What you could do is remove the topside chassis, allowing the components to breath, and if you have a fan, direct it towards the components, effectively cooling them down.

This is just a temporary solution, although it might work. It did for me.
