Just Checkin back in, not sure if i just need to be patient or if chances of getting a responce are lower than i may have thought (thought this was a extreemly common monitor on this board)

didnt want to make a new thread just askin about buyin the parts either but not sure if thats the right thing to do cause its a dif subject kinda.. or maby inline with the megathread...

    any input appreciated :P

Hi, read this I have had 3 of these suckers go out and replaced two power supplies and up and running again. I'm going to get a third supply...What's your time worth?

Well yea, thats nice dj, you now have new power supplies but the Lamps, the Caps on the Lamp board and the board your video card plugs into are all still as old as they were before...

so your spending $57 to fix a part that could end up being perfect when the rest fails... im lookin at spendin maby 5-10, learning something new (thats one of the biggest parts to this, learning how to do it, practicing working with it, its a fun project when your getting help, Selldoor has made this a very enjoyable learning experience for me) but if things fail ill prob dump the monitor and buy a whole new one... ive got 3x of these as well, i find them amazingly good and dont like many other monitors - but i bought my last 2 for $150 each, so id rather save that $50 (with no learning experience behind it) for the NEW monitor i buy if i cant fix this one myself...

but thanks for your input... just wish i could get a responce on the cap's.... the one part of the experience im very very very weary of doing, ordering parts i dont have a fkin clue about.... im way more comfortable dischargin the 450v cap with a lightbulb than i am ordering those parts... (and selldoor, i kno you have to hit the right parts of the bulb, you can solder directly to the bulb instead of putting it in a socket tho, but the 450v's leads are far enough apart you can pretty much touch it directly to the right spots, tho id rather be slightly more careful than that...)

          <Begging for Input Bump>

Is there by chance a 245bw owner that could chime in on this? i really dont wanna end up with a wrong part, install it not knowing, then assume it doesnt work for whatever reason..

PLEASE, if someone could verify that order id greatly appreciate it... Also picking a quality Solder and/or anything else i might need while working thats not common (i have a iron-sucker, iron with round & chisel tips, crappy radio shack flux solder - doesnt even say % that i can see, some braid for special situations, 4 arm board holder with magnifying glass and sponge, coil stand with sponge, silver trace pen, cleaner pen... i may have missed a thing or two, but thats most of whats in my soldering box)

i assume using radio shack solder with unknown %'s cant be that great...

This is my most uncomfortable stage, if someone could please get me through the order id greatly appreciate it.....

          Thanks
          ...Patrick

PS >> Selldoor, if you have any input on stuff other than the listed parts (which solder to pick, tools you suggest pickin up along with, ect) then please lemme kno, you have really been amazingly helpful, im to the point of nearly givin up on anyone else bothering to help with the parts but when i order id like to atleast get some good solder and possibly any tools if you could help with some suggestions... Thanks again.. You are Awsome! :P

Looks like you have enough tools etc to do simple cap changes.Selldoor is on holiday, and he may not have been able to confirm your purchase list either. If you have selected the right values, working voltages etc obtained from what is on the Board, and it would seem nobody else can help you with that, then You just have to take the chnace and buy what you have selected, otherwise you could be waiting for months to get more information.

I haven't fixed this particular monitor, but the above list put looks good. FC, FR and FM capacitors are always a good choice for a power supply, and it's probably very rare that a power supply won't work with these. Personally, I've never had one do that, so I think you should be safe.

Just be careful that the caps in the above list are the same same diameter as the old ones (i.e. replace 10 mm wide caps with 10 mm caps, otherwise you might have some problems fitting the caps). Other than that, if you got the voltage and the capacitance right, FC, FR, and FM should be fine.

By the way, I want to congratulate you on how much your knowledge of electronics has improved. Last time I was on the forums was more than a week ago. Since then you seem to have picked up very quickly.

Thank you very much for your input and time, ill go ahead and put the order in... Which type of Solder should i get tho? is there a specific % of flux core thats best to go with or a certain brand thats better than others? or in this case does it not matter if im working with crappy radio shack solder?

                Thanks again..

As long as there is flux in the solder, you should be fine. Non-fluxed cores shouldn't be used unless you separately apply flux to the joints.

been so busy i hadnt even gotten the parts yet... but that makes me more comfortable to know that theres a good chance thats the problem hah.. i need to order the damn parts but with bein so busy i nearly went with the power board off ebay then they were sold out heh... so back to fixin but this video was nice to run into heh..

Digi-key is missing the 22uf caps.... not avail til after december... as well as substitutes listed for it...

is this a reasonable way to go?
                        http://www.ebay.com/itm/Repair-Kit-S...item4cf84371b8
they said they only use Panasonic, Nichicon and Rubycon - digikey was all panasonic so im sure those are ok, are nichicon and rubycon quality parts?

If thats not suggested then, If anyone knows of a source for the power boards already fixed for replacement (similarly to what ive already missed out on above), im rdy to give up for now being so busy and then ill have a spare board to fix for next breakdown...

I really want my surround back, i cant stand havin so little desktop, waitin til next year is not gona cut it for me hehe...

ALSO Curious... Anyone have any input or comments about the Samsung 9 series 27" PLS Monitors? -- im debating going with 3x of them in Surround, i saw some video saying they are capable of 3d on their own without stuff like nvidia 3d vision, so id be able to run 7680x1440 in 3d heh... ive got two GTX 580 in SLi and not sure if they can power that much real estate either.. (then again, can they push enough power for the 3d... but im not sure cause ive read some things saying its capable of 120hz so your suppose to use nvidia 3d if you wanted and other videos saying it has its own 3d and doesnt really run 120hz (or not good for 3d atleast)) when all the information contradicts itself, makes it really hard to get the honest results...

                        Thanks Again..

I am still away but watching- pack includes the 3 resistors prone to failure but yours are ok.
Substitute this rubycon at digikey 1189-1660-1-ND. ?

I would strongly suggest to avoid ebay. Too many fake caps on there.

The 1189-1660-1-ND (Rubycon YXJ) that selldoor pointed to on digikey are a good replacement.

You may have to go for 1Watt:

I use this before when I run out of 68 Ohms 1/2W MOX resistor.

You can use 200 Ohms in place of the three 68 Ohms that are connected in series. 68 X 3 = 204 Ohms.
Just have to install it into the right holes.
