Philips 170s - white screen

    Philips 170s - white screen

    Well I have one, Philips 170s7 (model no. HNS7170T) on my table. Symptom is display that displays all white. No matter if the video cable is plugged into the source or not, it's always all white. No menu on buttons pressing, only when i connect and disconnect input, screen goes black for a brief moment, and when it should display picture it goes white again.

    I'm highly suspicious of logic board, as I can see nothing wrong with the power.

    checked two fuses just now, and they're OK.

      What about the fuse on the panel board? This is the board that is at the top of the lcd and may be hidden underneath the metal frame. Follow the LVDS cable from the logic board.

      PS. Did the regulators arrive yet?

        panel board is where the other end of the flat cable is attached? Yes, it was under the metal plate, but I found no fuses on it. Few IC's as far as the bigger components go, and one voltage regulator. Rest are really small.

        No, I'm still waiting on those. I estimate, another week, maybe 10 days

          They have very small SMD fuse on that board. I never see T-CON without the fuse yet.

              Yup, there is one small fuse marked FU101. When i checked it, it showed infinity constantly (also switched black and red, of course, but result is the same).
              If it's that small SMD fuse, how the hell am I gonna replace it?

                You can put in a new fuse "over top" or "piggyback" the old one.

                  edit: I forgot to ask, how do i know what was the V and A of the small fuse?

                    Post a picture of the fuse and surrounding area. Sometimes the specification are printed on the board or there is a letter on the fuse.

                        D = delay (or slow blow). U = 3.15A. The voltage rating will depend on the size of the fuse. See

                        My guess is that any 3.15A, 32V fuse will do as long as you get the size package correct.

                          By the way, you may find these 3A 32V fuses on old boards. It doesn't have to be exactly 3.15A.

                          It looks like a 3A fuse is letter code "P"

                            Thanks! I will begin my search for the fuse today, but i think i saw them in one store some time ago, so I'll check there first thing today.

                              Make sure to buy at least 2 fuses. I'd say there's about 80% chance it will blow again and only 20% that it will work without problem. Most t-cons with this failure mode (blown fuse) usually have a shorted cap on one of the power rails. It's actually not very hard to troubleshoot. Just post some good pictures of the t-con.

                                  On large TVs and computer lcd monitors, there is usually a separate board called a t-con (timing control).

                                  On smaller computer lcd monitors (say 19inch and smaller) the t-con and panel board are integrated.

                                  Your Philips is likely the latter case.
