Replace ALL electrolytic caps (possibly excluding the 450V one) with name brand low ESR caps such as Panasonic FM, FR, or FC series. That will cost under $10, including shipping. Replacing one at a time, using 'general purpose' caps, or buying parts from Radio Shack is an exercise in self flagellation.

The large red arrows were the bulging ones that i replaced. the small red arrow i replaced as well. i am waiting on the 2 330 caps they are in the mail.

do i have to have the same rating caps? how much can they be off ?

The caps i used were from radio shack

i replaced them with the same values

i replaced the 2 of the 470 uf 25v caps
and 1 of the 4.7 uf cap

Hi the caps you have used if they were off the shelf from radio shack will be general purpose and not the correct type for this application .

Low esr caps as supplied on this site or from Digi key are what is needed ,
if you read the links on Plain bills post's they will point you in the right direction

some more detail on the caps i used when replacing

            http://www.electronix.com/capacitor-...uf-p-5682.html

this is what the product description was
These electrolytic capacitors are radial lead style, 50 Volt, 470 microfarad. Low profile design for small installation areas. High quality, 105C (Celsius) temperature rated.

were those the correct caps? or do i need to order new ones ?

              They're Jamicon - they're wrong.

The most common faults on this PSU/Inverter,used on a number of VX models are as follows:-
                1) Electrolytic Caps as usual
                2) Failure of T1(top right on your photo)
3)Failure of brown cap next to it,C24

should i order a T1 and brown cap or could i get away with just buying a new set of electrolytic caps?

i have bought QUITE a few worthless parts alredy and i could have just bout a new power supply board by now i would liek to do this as cheap as possible.

This monitor also may suffer from shorted transistors in the inverters. You can test them with a DMM. Take a picture of the back side of the power supply / inverter board and I will point them out.

The first picture is OK, the second is useless. I'm running a little slow today, so rather than mark up the picture, I'll try to do this verbally.

On the left side, Q6 and Q7 are the drivers, check them for shorts. Also check the equivalent pair on the right side; sorry, I can't make out the location numbers. Also, check D9 and (I believe) D10
