I pulled Q3383 completely and there is no more popping from enabling/disabling the B speakers. My theory is that this is also the source of the changing input protection since it will mute during change and then pop from ground to -2V.

The only unexpected behavior (to me anyway) now is that the protect is always being asserted on power up from the surround/remote amp board.

I ordered the part and it will be here next week.

Thank you redwire for your help. I got the part in the mail today and replaced it and everything is working perfectly. Now I have 9 extra RN1241s. Q3383 has been replaced and no more protect shut offs or popping from Speaker B.

Heh, I thought I was out of the woods but the remote does not work. It's not the remote as it works with another receiver. Back to the schematic.

The IR sensor was bad. Nothing on the signal line when receiving an IR signal. I swapped in another sensor from a scrap receiver and now it's working.

Dang it, I'm still getting a protect on power up sometimes. FMUT is 2V on power up and goes to 0V after enabling the speaker relay. The base on the muting transistors is not changing so I suspect Q3185.

It seems it was a poor connection. I re-flowed from FMUT to the diode D3182, transistor Q3185, the jumper wires to the mute transistor inputs and all seems well with protect.

The bad news is the remote sensing has mostly stopped working.

That seems to have been a bad solder joint as well. The remote is working again.

If everything holds, the final repair tally was one muting resistor and one remote sensor.

In usage, the settings don't last long without being in standby. I was thinking the super capacitor should be replaced. The schematic and parts lists seems to differ in capacity. it seems like the higher the farads the longer the settings will be retained. R7079 should limit the charge current?

The C7002 part number is for a 0.1F but the schematic shows 0.047F. I'm inclined to get the 0.1F. Is this the right part to use?

Yes, C7002 is an Elna super-cap DX-5R5L104 0.1F 5.5V and upsizing it is OK. The schematic shows it as 0.047F so they already did it.

I put in a new super cap and the settings now save for much longer, lasted overnight.

Bad DC offset on Onkyo TX NR414 - doesn't appear to be in the analogue section
                        by jjne
I have a TX NR414, well I have two actually which are both exhibiting the same issue.

The one I've had since 2012 developed DC offset of around a volt under load on the front right speaker output. Not enough to trip the protection but enough to be noticeable in terms of sound quality. I checked the preamp board and couldnt see anything obvious. The offset is too high really to be a drift issue right?

I put the amplifier away for a while. I managed to pick up another example with a dead HDMI board very cheaply (common on these - mine was replaced by Onkyo several years...

Onkyo TX-SR805 noise in one channel
                        by MegaZAC
Surprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.

Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.

There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                        by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                        by spleenharvester
                        Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

American Audio VLP1500 Distorting on one channel
                        by dicky96
Hi guys I have a VLP1500 amplifier here - one channels works fine and the other channel distorts even at low volume settings

Protection and Clip LED are off

There is something wrong with the BIAS voltages around T16 and T18 (in particular) on the bad channel

I tested all diodes and transistors in this area in circuit with diode mode - both channels seem identical. Same in resistance mode across all the resistors here.

The output DC voltages on pin1 and pin8 of the 5532D dual op amp at the input of each amplifier module are the same, and the audio...
