Desk fan interferes with amplifier's right channel

    Here's an odd one.

My friend bought the same amp as me, Cambridge Audio A5, to replace his Logitech computer speakers. He's really impressed with it.... BUT:

He has a desk fan pretty much on the other side of his room to his amp. When he turns the fan on, the right channel on the amp gets this horrible low frequency buzzing noise, clearly audible over music. This only happens when he turns the fan on, it doesn't disappear when he turns the fan off. It doesn't disappear if the amp is turned off. It will only disappear if you nudge the balance knob on the amp back and forth a tiny little bit, multiple times. Then it's fine again until the fan gets turned back on!

It's really quite amazingly strange. Any idea's what might be causing this?

EDIT: Forgot to add, turning the volume all the way down so no music can be heard... this strange humming is still there.

Look around the room for lights on the same circuit as the fan.
Pay attention to flourecent, high intensity, and mood lights.
Turn on amp, turn on fan, start turning off lights.

This is just one of many possible things.

He says there's no lights plugged in to the same socket as the fan. Try turning off..... anything, one at a time?

The most likely fix for this problem is to install a heavy duty line filter on the fan, and then on the amplifier if the filter on the fan alone does not fix this problem.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I've seen corrosion in outlets do this kind of thing.
Also a fire risk from aluminum wire in house?

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
            by spleenharvester
            Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

American Audio VLP1500 Distorting on one channel
            by dicky96
Hi guys I have a VLP1500 amplifier here - one channels works fine and the other channel distorts even at low volume settings

Protection and Clip LED are off

There is something wrong with the BIAS voltages around T16 and T18 (in particular) on the bad channel

I tested all diodes and transistors in this area in circuit with diode mode - both channels seem identical. Same in resistance mode across all the resistors here.

The output DC voltages on pin1 and pin8 of the 5532D dual op amp at the input of each amplifier module are the same, and the audio...

            Hitachi V19B01922 Channel Tune problem
            by dicky96
            Hi Guys
I have a customer who has two Hitachi TVs in his bar, one is the model in the thread title and the other is a larger screen but has the same setup menu

He also has an LG TV, so three screens in the bar

            I installed three Satlink ST-6503 DVB-T Modulators
            This model https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32916553905.html

These connect to three satellite receivers via HDMI cables and then connect to a 4 way RF Amp that connects to the TVs on aerial cable. There is no incoming terrestrial antenna. I set the channel ID on the modulators to...

Marantz pm 6005 right channel not worknig
            by sima112
            Hi guys,
I need a help with my Marantz pm6005. It started to have weaker the right channel a few months ago, than it got back to normal and now it has lost sound completely on the right channel. At the final stage it was loosing the channel for a while and than it returned. After it has disappeared completely I could forced it back by unplugging the source form CD (which I normally use) to phone and back. It would then work for a few minutes and died again. Now it is possible power up and all function works normally (apart the right channel ) on all inputs, except the phone both channel...

            Supermicro X10DAX and Quad Channel
            by Logistics
So my dilemma is that I can't seem to get my board to run in Quad Channel. I have an X10DAX with Dual E5 2690 v3's and originally it had four 16GB sticks of Samsung ECC. Figuring I needed to have a stick for each DIMM1 slot I purchased four more identical sticks of Samsung M393A2G40DB0-CPB. So, now I have eight 16GB sticks for a total of 128GB of RAM. When I install the ram so that Each DIMM1 slots is populated the system will not post even if I clear the CMOS, remove the battery, what-have-you. But according to what I'm reading in the Manual, which is admittedly not very clear, populating each...
