Re: Desk fan interferes with amplifier's right channel
He says there's no lights plugged in to the same socket as the fan. Try turning off..... anything, one at a time?

Desk fan interferes with amplifier's right channel
Here's an odd one.
My friend bought the same amp as me, Cambridge Audio A5, to replace his Logitech computer speakers. He's really impressed with it.... BUT:
He has a desk fan pretty much on the other side of his room to his amp. When he turns the fan on, the right channel on the amp gets this horrible low frequency buzzing noise, clearly audible over music. This only happens when he turns the fan on, it doesn't disappear when he turns the fan off. It doesn't disappear if the amp is turned off. It will only disappear if you nudge the balance knob on the amp back and...

Re:got my graphics card back from rma
Thought as much
I'll see if I can send this one back for RMA then. Knowing my luck they'll refuse, say they tested it before hand and blame it on a user error or some crap... and I know it wasn't anything to do with me
I am curious though, what exactly is that little component? Is it a transistor?...

:( got my graphics card back from rma :(
Well this is absolutely typical of my terrificly extreme bad luck.
I sent my dieing (graphics corruption) 6800 back to get it RMA'd, about 2 months(!!!) ago now. It *just* arrived back to me today (9 weeks ish, terrible). I've been waiting so patiently for this card so I can play games again. Serious withdrawl. It's not even funny!
So, it's a brand new spanky shiny card. Very nice. I put the card in, turn computer on. Naturally, because of my apparent "below average" good luck factor, I don't trust many things, so I left the case side off and watched to...

Re: Epox 9NDA3+ with exsessive coil noise
lol
I guess the different regulator chip (AFAIK that is actually the only difference really) needed a slightly different layout to the old one. It is quite different around that area compared to the rev 1 boards, but I think that's about as far as the differences go
Haven't touched this board matey. They're all stock caps
Haha, maybe the regulator isn't the only difference then...

Re: Epox 9NDA3+ with exsessive coil noise
Yes, it is :P I'll get a bigger picture of my board if you want. But I assure you, it is a 9NDA3+ v2.1 :P
Infact, I can even circle the section my picture is showing from a picture on the link you provided :P...Last edited by markiemrboo; 04-09-2006, 07:42 AM.

Re: Epox 9NDA3+ with exsessive coil noise
Well, I assure you it is..... because that's an actual picture of my board :P
I guess so :P On my board the original difference between idle and load vcore was around 0.08v from what I remember.... This wasn't constant fluctuation either, it was *only* when going from an idle -> load state, or load -> idle state that it would drop / rise. All other times the vcore remained pretty stable.
EDIT: Thought I might just state again, that mod is *only* for a v2.1 board. I think...

Re: Epox 9NDA3+ with exsessive coil noise
The idle / load drop on this board is incredibly common (I think only rev 2.1 boards are affected from my reading at the time).
There's a mod which you can do that helps ALOT with this strange flucuation. My vcore only swings 0.02v either way, and very rarely, now

Re: "R.M" brand capacitors
Yeah, http://www.rme.cn/enhtml/cd110.htm <-- those would be the ones apparently. CD110's. Same ones I have got!
Just need to figure out how the boards are removed now then
Sounds pretty cool. I'm reading the NE5532 isn't too bad? I'm also reading that the NE5534 is supposed to be noticably better though.

Re: "R.M" brand capacitors
Cool cool
While gone I actually replaced all (well, all but two non polarized) the caps on the middle board with the large caps. Here's an overview, as will requested.
Right next to the large 2200uF caps were two little 50v, 1uF caps.
There were also two 16v, 10uF caps next to what looks like two variable resistors.
There's now only six caps left, on two different boards, all exactly the same values....

Re: "R.M" brand capacitors
You seem to know your stuffI've heard some of those different.... stages.... before, but I don't really know how to tell what caps do what in an amp. I suppose you kind of have to know a bit about how it all works and stuff.
If possible, could you take a lookie at the picture I have attached and try and guess for me what I am actually replacing? The pink circle is ones I have already changed (though in the picture the smaller caps in pink are still actually the originals, I didn't take pictures of the replacements...

Re: "R.M" brand capacitors
Yeah, those are the ones I was planning on (and did) first. I did three smaller ones then decided I needed music for a while!! I might do a few more tomorrow.
I'm thinking I am hearing more detail in the high mids that I wasn't hearing before, but that could be because I am listening harder or something. I don't really know. It's quite strangeI swear I am hearing details that I wasn't before though....

Re: What is this?!!! Leaking????
How odd
Question #2: Do non polarized caps ever have a band on it marking which leg is negative (guessing not, because it wouldn't matter which way around they went?)... some of the smaller caps I pulled have ( N ) printed on them, but also have the "-" strip. Was just wondering if the ( N ) meant non polarized or something...

Re: What is this?!!! Leaking????
Thanks for that! I didn't eat glue as a child, so I wouldn't know what it tastes like lol
If that's the case I think they might have been leaking. It tastes sourish to me. But the blob of it I pulled off the first cap stretches like glue?! It wouldnt' stretch would it? Hm......

What is this?!!! Leaking????
Ok guys and gals, I went ahead and removed one of the bigger caps in my amp... and on the PCB and bottom of the cap is some strange orangey browny looking stuff. Have these caps been leaking from the bottom?! Or is this just some sort of glue or something?

They're *all* R.M CD110 series caps. Could someone tell me if they're any good? Whether it's worth replacing them?

Re: "R.M" brand capacitors
Well i've placed an order for all those. I needed some other bits to fix a broken USB port on another computer, and they have a minimum order of £20. Figured I might as well
I can say one thing. The 2200uF ones (I assume they're for the power supply or something) seem to get rather hot. They were still hot (not just warm) to the touch at least 5 minutes after the amp being turned off! Those are fairly close to a big heatsink. I suppose the heatsink is where those transistors are? I dunno
