    Technics SU-VZ320 amp

amp is over 10 years old. volume control is weird - one speaker is louder than the other and some crackling on that speaker before a decently loud volume is selected. sometimes that one speaker is going quiet occasionally.

what kind of servicing should i do? renew the solder joints i guess, should i remove each solder and put new or do i just heat and add solder. any ideas? what about the caps should i look into renewing them? what else?

its kinda sentimental value. lots of music went through that thing....

clean all the pots with deoxit.

I'd look at the volume pot. It probably requires cleaning or replacement.

I had a really old amp with a bad volume control, the sound would crackle, but if i "massaged" the volume knob for a min it would be fine for an hour...

Electronic spray also helped, but only for a short while; I found a good fix though, I bought a new receiver :P

This one has Toslink which I kinda needed also so it was not only for the bad volume knob I retired the old one

The layout is lean, mean and clean - even by Matsushita's usually superb standards. My only quibble is that I dislike integrated power-amp modules - I prefer discrete bipolar O/P stages any day. This just can't be modded meaningfully at all.

On another note, this Panasonic bookshelf-audio system produces stunning sound - even better than $10k high-end separates from ~10 years ago (just ignore the PMPO crap):

                http://www.jbronline.com/storefront/...ProductId=3266

Entry-level level audio standards have gone up considerably in 10 years.

As others have recommended, clean the volume pot

I was just given an old JVC RX-315 receiver about the same age, and am wishing its problems were as easy as a dirty pot. It won't switch inputs anymore. One channel was dead too, but resoldering everything fixed that problem. Actually not sure I'll even bother with it - I have no use for the thing.

i couldnt find a 100kohm pot, they only had a 50. anyway i got some philips degreaser cleaner. its extrememly flammable which i guess is a good sign.. i opened the pot and then sprayed it and worked the pot. the crackling is gone but there is a point where one speaker goes off and the pot clicks at that point i believe. anyway no biggie. i resoldered the secondary board. i will do the rest this long greek easter holiday (4 day weekend yeah! )

is a 50 ohm pot going to be too insensitive?

i will get a new amp sometime when i finally choose one. i am listening to mp3s most of the time via the audiophile 192 to b&w 302s so i probably dont need anything really expensive. i always had my eye on an arcam. the nad i heard to be good also.

                    check this one http://www.avihifi.co.uk/IntAmp/Integrated%20Amp.html
                    alas very expensive.

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
                                  by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....

Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).

I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

                                  Hi,

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes....

UV solder mask - high temp resistent, recomendation?
                                  by myth77
Can someone recommend any good UV solder mask? But i need a solder mask that will stand high temperetures. The thing is...sometimes i have a bigger cooper ripped from the board, lets say mosfet pad... i reconstract it with cooper sheet, then i "glue it" with solder mask...then i use UV light...and let it cool a bit. After, i try to clean the cooper of extra solder mask..and till that part all is ok. But, when i use a soldering iron to solder that pad/cooper...the solder mask gets weaker or destroyed and finally the pad is ripped again from the board .
                                  Is there any solder mask...
