    triacs - stay away from.

the input and output are 230vac, but the control pin is 5v and if you short it - you blow the controller.

you WONT get a shock from the chip even if you stuck your finger on it.

What about the triacs? Should I check them too? I know they are big voltage and AC I think?

"Presumably meter on 600VAC. Touch ground first when I know where it is then probe chips." Set meter to DCV, 20V scale or auto range, check between GND pin and VCC pin as suggested.

Indeed. I was thinking I could use GND on the chip but I don't want to blow this chip up. I've no idea if I can use that ground.

Also looking at the data sheet this chip doesn't appear to match. The PDIP chip has a semi-circular indent in one edge but my chip has a semi-circular indent AND a circle indent too!

Check ST website and found an M93C86W ( that's a 33 page manual so not sure if this matters. Same voltage range though).

if you can safely do it, meter the voltage between VCC and GND

Cool. OK. Tell me where a ground is on the board.

If I out my wellies on, am I right in saying I cannot get a shock providing I do not lean on fridge casing with another part of my body?

Board is high up so I'll need to stand on a chair (wooden by the way).

Presumably meter on 600VAC. Touch ground first when I know where it is then probe chips.

As I say if you can tell me where a suitable ground is then I'm good to go.

Also, need to be careful not to blow EEPROM as I obviously won't be able to reprogramme it!

    eeprom part number?
i need to get the pinout so we can check for the vcc supply.

I would concentrate on when you blew out the land on the board. Where does the run go to on the top side of the board. Instead of reading through all this post . Can you state the first problem you had before you blew you the land? When you blew out the land any component attached to that land could of been taken out. It would be dependent on what is the weakest point of the design.

"EDIT: reed switch fine continuity when magnet near and loses continuity when magnet removed." That is fine.

Liebherr Fridge Freezer KGT 3456 not working
    by CG2
To be a bit more specific, I've got a 20-ish year old Liebherr that has just stopped working. This was quite a sophisticated beast for its time. It's a twin compressor model, and you set the desired temperatures of the fridge and freezer parts from a couple of little control panels above the door. It displays the actual temps on some eight segment displays there, flashing if it's working to get to where you want it. There's a control board with a microprocessor on it that read the temperature from a couple of sensors, switches the compressors on as necessary, and runs the display. There's also...

    Fridge - Gram
    by tmcw
Have this fridge, laboratory grade unit, not working fully.

It's designed with a chilling unit at the top, on the inside, and a fan just below that. When the door is closed, the fan blows the cold air down through the fridge, and when the door opens, the fan switches off, presumably so that it doesn't blow all the cold air out.

The fan isn't switching on, so in addition to not having uniform cold throughout the fridge, the chilling tubes tend to ice up. I took the lid off the top, electronics are in the lid, and when the door is opened and closed, I can hear the relevant...

Kenmore refrigerator adaptive defrost timer fix. Part: AP4909015
    by connorcc2005
I have a 20 year old Kenmore side by side refrigerator that was acting up with the following issues:
    • Evaporator coil in the freezer was frozen up.
    • Unit was still holding temperature
    • Evaporator fan would run 2 to 3 seconds on then shut off only to repeat.
Defrosted the evaporator coil and began testing. Defrost heater ohmed out good. Defrost thermal switch on the evaporator line in the freezer tested good. Once the evaporator coil was defrosted, the freezer and fridge worked but the fan continued to cycle on and off continuously. I suspect the evaporator coil was destined to freeze up again...

Haier HVTB18DABB Wine fridge thermoelectric board - bad caps?
    by Jneub007
Hi! Hope you can lend me some advice.
I am attempting to repair a Haier HVTB18DABB thermoelectric wine fridge. Both fans work, but the temps are not changing in the dual zones. Upon inspection, I believe this cap (pictured) and possibly another may be the culprits - based on the base of the caps and what looks to be dried dark liquid at the base. Assuming that is abnormal?

Do you agree and which product do you suggest replacing with?

Very much appreciated! Let me know if more info needed. ...
