    Recover defective smartphone data

    Hello,

Do you know ways to recover data (photos, videos, ...) from a smartphone that no longer works?
For example if the motherboard is defective and it is impossible to repair it, is there a way to unsolder the memory containing the data and to be able to read it through an interface or other?

Thank you for your feedback on this topic

    maybe.
but the socket to fit the chip in wont be cheap.
and the data may be encrypted - depending on the fone settings.

it's more common to fix the fone enough to boot it up and use usb.
    what fone is it?

What broke on the phone? If it is a display and/or battery problem, you could try swapping the motherboard out into another phone of the same model.

It's not for a specific smartphone, it's a general question.

I've seen that on Iphone you need to get the CPU, EEPROM and NAND and then solder it to another motherboard. The data must really be very important...

For Android smartphones, there seems to be devices that allow to read the memory once unsoldered but I don't know how it works. (Mobile Memory Chip-Off Data Recovery Reader)

But it seems that recent Android smartphones are all hardware encrypted.

From the iPhone 5 inwards encryption has been default.
There are NAND and Flash recovery devices like the PC-3000 and Resolut but they won't work if it's encrypted.

            Re: Recover defective smartphone data

I've done some more research, I'll put it here in case it's useful to someone else:

There are DS3000 boxes made by the company allbalancetech which allow to read EMMC162+186/EMMC221/EMMC153+169/BGA526/BGA280/BGA100

Each unit is sold for about 100$.

These devices can only read data that is not encrypted, which is not a lot of smartphones since Iphones are encrypted since Iphone 5 and Android smartphones are mostly encrypted since Android 5 (2014).

So indeed the simplest and surest way to succeed is to repair the motherboard if it is defective...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Possbility of data recovery, is it true?
              by kingiii
Hello, A customer told us that there is a data recovery company that can by pass IMac pro 2020 with t2 chipset GPU to get their data back, I am wondering if that is possible. GPU is shorted and Imac wont boot at all. I informed customers that data are almost impossible to be retrived, and they are upset and think we are BS them. Of course being up in Canada, people like to believe that usa will have a better solution for it, a US data recovery company they searched on google told customer that they could get the data back without needing worry about T2 chip or Imac not working all that, I do not...

Can anyone identify the classification of this data signal?
              by mscottdoran@gmail.com
Hi, I'm an elevator technician. The attached oscilloscope display picture is from a digital elevator hall arrival lantern data signal. We have been having problems with “ghost signals” causing intermittent hall arrival lanterns to illuminate randomly when the elevator is not actually due to arrive at the floor.

The tech support of the hall arrival board manufacturer (CE Electronics) is blaming the elevator controller manufacturer (MCE), and the tech support of the elevator controller blames the hall arrival board manufacturer.

The boards are powered by a ground referenced...

Maytag Whirlpool Kenmore clothes dryer data bus
              by Joe24
Patient is a Maytag/Whirlpool/Kenmore clothes dryer. Not sure of exact model, doesn't matter. All boards are out of production.

Specific problem is a Maytag 8544799 / WP8544799 motor-control board, aka Diehl Controls 708879-05. Customer states the board "doesn't work, motor doesn't run". Not sure how the repairman made that assessment, or if it's even accurate. He can't get replacement boards, and the owner decided to buy a new dryer, so whether this board is the problem is speculation on his part. Again, doesn't matter.

I've been over the board looking for...
