That's a good idea but unfortunately it still won't protect against accidents. Personally I think I would also add the diodes if I wanted to make sure

      hmmmm...

$1 worth of diodes or $80 worth of meter? Let me think on that....

Re: Advice on ESR and Capacitance meters

I m using a esr micro from Mike Klykov. Measure esr from 0.01 ohm to 160 ohm, and capaciti from 1 to 60000 microfarad. Verry good instrument for a not to manny money. Came with bateries inside and i m usin him for over a year and batteries are still ok. Came with manual and completly assembled, and in manual you can find a most common capacitor esr aproximate values. I think was 100$ with postal charges, and arive to me in four days, instrument was 55$ i think and postal charges was 45$.

And shure, when dealing with caps, always be shure thet the caps are discharged, for your, caps, and meters safety.

            B&K 707 tube tester. I need help.
            by DCJack
            Hi everyone!

I managed to get my hands on a rough condition B&K 707 for "the best price" because it was not working. It's my first tube tester and I'm really wanting to get it up and running. I downloaded that manual that has the schematics and tested every resistor and capacitor and replaced the ones that failed. I replaced the missing 83 rectifier tube with a used but tested-good one. I also have a number 80 rectifier tube that I have used in tests before I found the 83 tube.

Initially I noticed that I was not getting the red on-light to turn on, but it...

            Hisense calibration
            by jaco2d
Hi i recently purchased a Hisense u7hqtuk TV, there is 2 different version of this set, the UK, Europe one and the America one, i have the UK and Europe version.
I have searched for calibration for the TV but i can only find it for the America one which has 1000 nits, the version i have has got 600 nits so the calibration settings will not work.
Has anyone got this TV and managed to get good picture setting for it or can anyone find a link to the calibration settings?
The picture is good enough but if possible i would like to get the best possible picture settings for the...

Calculating ESR from tan delta -- tan delta's dependence on capacitance
            by Junkrepair
I'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.

I found this nice little description of the conversion:

            Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
            https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...

Dell Optiplex GX260 - Advice Needed for Polymodding Motherboard
            by SwedishDiesel
            Howdy folks,

I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...

Advice on newer EC chip programming eg. MEC5107-LJ BGA
            by zlr8r
Hey all, was wanting to know what cheapest option is for programming EC chips such as the MEC5107-LJ

i searched online and found such programmers as the SVOD4, Vertyanov Successor , and the RT809h type but didn’t see this particular BGA EC chips listed? So hoping for some advice here , cheers.
