Converting 12v to 24v device to work on car battery

I have a small device that operates at about 72 watts with a 24v power supply, i want to be able to use the device on a car battery but since it will be at half voltage i thought about using something similar to this

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/5A-DC-DC-Boo...-/262974092676 or this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EFUHGMU...ure-scomp-wm-4

Would i need anything else and most importantly would this be a safe and reliable way to use it on a car battery, since im sure these electronics are all made in china i wonder about the quality?

72W at 24W = input current requirement of the device is 3A, so if you are going to use the step up converter to boost the 12V to 24V DC at 72 W so the input current to the converter will be at least 6A, so you need the converter that is rated higher to have headroom and also due to inrush current the converter may encounter. The claimed eff. is 94%.
Can that board actually do 3A at 24V DC output?

The 2nd link says it supports 10 amps, so that should be enough room for the inrush current for 6 amps

That's obviouly not gonna do 400W, but it should be OK for 72W. You may want to replace the capacitors as they're gonna be crap.
I've used it at around 80W without issues but it's not running 24/7 and I didn't try to go higher, I didn't have a high inrush current either.

This one may leave a bit more room if needed, but capacitors are crap too.

I also have this one but I don't think it's gonna be enough for you.

Even though those chinese products can have a decent build quality, the capacitors are almost always crap, and the rating is often higher than what the module can withstand (often due to insufficent cooling). Always monitor the temps, an upgrade to the cooling system may be needed (better TIM, bigger heatsink, adding a fan) if you're drawing a high current for a long time, if it's enclosed inside a box or inside a warm environment. If it's running inside a car for example, depending on where you install your device, there might be high temperatures and no airflow at all.

I love the Chinese specification, at 10A OUTPUT @24V DC, the input current will be 20A! (@100% Efft, but that is not the case)) looking at the wire gauge on the input side, it sure does not look like it is going to handle 20A for too long.
But for your project it may be OK.

ASUS X571 no power : battery issue?
              by mkdj
              Hello everyone,

              Mark and model: ASUS X571
Symptoms: not turning on. There is only the LED battery indicator working. The owner of the laptop told me this problem arrived one week after having changed the battery. He then managed to power on the laptop only once, and then it never powered on again.

              Tests already made:
              - Battery is charging when laptop is plugged in. The LED battery indicator turns white after a couple of hours of charge, indicating that battery is fully charged. However, laptop won't turn on anyway, with or without AC plug.
              - I have removed...

Lenovo V310-15ISK - It doesn't work after changing the battery
              by pabloroggeri
Good guys. I changed the battery to a Lenovo V310-15ISK.

The laptop worked perfectly, I changed the L15C4A02 battery because it didn't last very long.
When I connected the new battery, the charging LED stopped lighting up and the one next to the charging pin also did not react when I pressed the power button. Minutes before changing the battery it worked perfectly and stopped working after putting the new one in. Even if you put the oroginal battery in or connect it without the battery, no LED lights up when you press the power button nor does it give an image, nor does the...

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
              by techfreak9356
I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

Strange battery present behaviour in Lenovo Legion 5-15ARH05 mb model nm-d041
              by ferah831208
Hello guys, i need help with this problem, I have a NM-D041 mobo, it came with low impedance in 3v linear regulator rail, the cause was a damaged EC controller ITE8227e-192. I ordered a new one and replaced it. This laptop have a different chip for keyboard management and it8227e pins for programming ITE chips are not accesible through keyboard interface, I flashed it using i2c interface pins with vertyanov programmer because laptop was dead and SPI flash didn't have power (only 3v EC) so it couldn't access firmware stored in SPI memory. I read SPI and extracted it8227 firmware from original BIOS...

iPad Air A1475 Boot loops after replacing battery
              by trepachka
This iPad was working fine except the battery was not holding charge for more than 40 minutes. I replaced it with a new battery. I haven't glued the battery yet, just inserted it into the slot and held it with battery screw.

The iPad was powered on with the new battery and I am getting white screen with Apple logo for about 10 seconds, then the screen turns dark. It then cycles like this forever.

I know the battery is working because the iPad continues to boot loop without the charger until it depletes to 0% and the message displays I need to plug in the charger.
