    Looking for adjustable circuit breaker

Does anyone know if adjustable circuit breakers exist?
When I'm troubleshooting a machine that breaks glass fuses it's much better to use a circuit breaker, as I might not have enough of that particular fuse for testing...
But filling my car with circuit breakers from 0.1 to 16Ah in class A to D does not feel like an economic choice, much better to but a bucket of fuses then

All I'm finding is motor protection breakers but they are not really suitable as they are designed to be extremely slow to respond to overloads.
There also exists current monitoring relays but these are usually quite complicated to setup and and are cost prohibitive compared to the bucket of fuses

      That's not even adjustable.
      Either something like this: http://seventransistorlabs.com/Fuse/
But I need both AC & DC plus atleast 230v minimum rating, preferably 400v

This is what it should look like, but this is for motor protection (too slow)

IGBT is your best choice. Change Gate Drive Current to (0.1 to 16A adjustable),.If works I would like to make one.

Link2 is for AC application. " I need both AC & DC"

Re: Looking for adjustable circuit breaker

post #9 gave good answer, you need to know your load, if you load has high inrush then you will not want to install fast acting circuit breaker, you do not compensate by installing higher amp rating breaker, you install the one that can handle the high in rush so you will not get fault tripping.

I recommend Legrand brand for such issues . They have huge catalogues and references for adjustable circuit breakers . Yet , they are Super quality and expensive .

I think you misunderstood my reason for wanting the adjustable fuse budm, it is only for troubleshooting in complex machines.
Glass fuses are available in more dimensions, current and speed ratings that I could buy hundreds but never have the right one on hand for the job.
Let alone that I might need a couple with the same rating before finding the fault.

I have found this Elko PRI-51 series current monitoring relays that are quite cheap which interest me, the lowest response of 0.5s is a bit disappointing though.

There also exist the Siemens 3UG4622-2AW30 which is digital and really nice, but looks like it's interrupt current is very low so it would need an external contactor.
But the price on it is the biggest problem...

I know what you are trying to do, I am just pointing out about people using higher rating fuse or higher rating circuit breaker to take care of fault tripping due to inrush current.

help with home a/c and circuit breaker
                    by BigTroll
while I was gone today the women called me and said the a/c isn't working and the breaker is buzzing so she turned off the breaker. The a/c is a old 1993 model York so its nearing the end of its days, on really hot days the a/c will trip the breaker.

I visually checked the cap and contactor and they looked okay, I also pulled the 250v ac fuses and switched the main ac breaker on and got no buzz. I did get buzz when I put the ac 250v fuses back in and flipped on the breaker nothing but buzzing. could it be a shorted wire or did the circuit breaker just finally give up the ghost?...

Electric oven tripping circuit breaker after turned on for 3-5 minutes
                    by beetle1303
My electric oven was working fine all the while from purchased 2 years ago. I have been using it weekly for about a year, but stopped using for a year now since then.
When I turn it on again yesterday, the tripped the circuit breaker and whole house no power supply. I reset the circuit breaker, and retried. Same thing happened.

                    This is what happened:
                    - Turned on the oven power supply, set temperature to 200c, everything worked for a few minutes, then the power tripped. Oven was warmed/hot.
                    - Reset circuit breaker, retried, same thing happened.

Fixing the Charge Circuit of the Batteries of the DC Motor
                    by Astonished
                    Hi friends of electronics

What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

Please help me fix this circuit.

                    by rddube
                    Hello friends,

Looking for some guidance here. The RAM voltage circuit on this motherboard keeps burning out PU301 which is a RT8231AGQW. Copy of the board with the burnt chip attached with some voltage measurements and copy of the schematics also included.

I think I've checked almost every component in the circuit, but when I change the RT8231, the laptop starts I have 1.2V on the inductor for about 10 seconds and then the RT8231 goes south and no more voltage on the inductor. All other voltages on the laptop are good, this is the only one conking out for a reason I...

monitor AORUS AD27QD - short circuit and tripped breaker.
                    by sew333
Hello. I had a good monitor AORUS AD27QD. Yesterday when i was sleep i left monitor on like always. When i woke in morning there was not power in house. Something tripped breaker/fuse.
When i turn up breaker and power back in,monitor just refused to turn on. So monitor i guess tripped breaker somehow and make short circuit.

PC starting normally. Only monitor get damaged.
During night only pc was running and monitor. Other devices was off.

Is this possible that monitor can trip breaker?
