There is also a new type of MOSFET called a SiC MOSFET which is ideally suited to HV applications. Example attached:

Also a little discussion of the applications here:

These parts look a bit sturdier than the early BPT's used in televisions.

That will give you inductance at resonance. It will not measure break down at high voltage.

          Why America Needs War
          http://www.globalresearch.ca/why-ame...ds-war/5328631

During the Second World War America had witnessed a modest redistribution of the collective wealth of the nation to the advantage of the less privileged members of society.
America, or rather, corporate America, was orphaned of its useful Soviet enemy, and urgently needed to conjure up new enemies and new threats in order to justify a high level of military spending.
And so Mars could remain the patron saint of the American economy or, more accurately, the godfather of the corporate Mafia that manipulates this war-driven economy and reaps its huge profits without bearing its costs. The despised project of a peace dividend could be unceremoniously buried, and military expenditures could remain the dynamo of the economy and the wellspring of sufficiently high profits.
Samsung works with SONY, LG works with Philips. It is also hard work and dedication of the people that are willing to work hard and study hard, not like some people that want the hand out. Hyundai works with MISUBISHI.

S.Korea is only paying 40% to the US Arm force that willing to die to help to protect their country?

            Re: An insulated-gate bipolar transistor?

Found this interesting paper comparing a few different types of switching devices:

These devices are really amazing. In the end, after all the discussions and coffee breaks and calculatiions, the most likely part is selected and empirically tweaked in-circuit for best operation. There are just too many variables to consider on paper. Parasitic capacitance (and specifically gate/source and gate/drain capacitance) is the biggest deal so a hefty low impedance driver is necessary. And then you have to guess when it comes to switching inductive loads. Will it live long and prosper? That's the main trouble with flyback switchers - they are more difficult to sub.

Power amplifier SMPS IGBT keeps blowing - Artcoustic PDA1000
                    by mikkele86
                    hello.

I have two power amplifiers, both having their IGBT blown on the PSU.
The original mounted IGBT where marked with IRGB20B60PD1PbF and the gate driver is a IR2156STRPBF.

I looked at mouser and digikey and could not find any available IRGB20B60PD1PbF and somehow ended up using a Bourns BIDW20N60T.
I replaced the gate driver, the gate resistor and both IGBT. But as soon power is turned on, both IGBT shorts out completely (gate, emitter, collector) and the fuse on the AC line gets killed.

So I though i missed a capacitor or diode. I removed...

                    by sigmeyer
Ok , so i got this TV from a friend of mine.So to start it off Its a plasma TV.When turned on it the red light comes on , then after a couple seconds the light goes off, and it repeats like that. You can hear the Relay click on for a few seconds then off ... So it wasnt an obvious short on the mains input thats for sure. I opened it up , and mind you, i have never seen an inside of a plasma TV so it suprised me to say the least. There are 3 massive power boards. The main one , then we have the board that is connected to another board which then goes to the TV (i assume those are some kind of drivers...

Bipolar capacitor for vintage Apple CRT monitor
                    by tony359
                    Good day all,

I have a question about some old monochrome Apple monitors.

Inside those monitors there is one bipolar capacitor. From the schematics I have it's part of the horizontal linearity circuit.

A friend replaced a bipolar 4.7uF 25V capacitor with a Nichicon bipolar 4.7uF 25V. The cap popped after about one hour. The new capacitor was much smaller than the original one but that's not a surprise as the original one was from 1980. (I am not sure whether the original was was actually 4uF and was replaced with a 4.7uF?)

                    The new capacitor:...

                    Hello
Got this speaker from a friend , defective. Power led comes on and off , in a loop.
Disassembled, got the board out, and after a bit of measuring I found a low resistance on a 5v6 line. With a bit of current I found a transistor heating up on that line (labeled T1 and 113 as on pic).
After removing this guy, I got a value of 0.7 in diode mode on that 5v6 line, which before had 0.02 or something like that.

I tested powering it up without the IC, and the speaker turns on and stays on, and works fine

Still, I need to replace this transistor....
