Did you clean and lube your solder sucker? It makes a big difference even on a cheap one.

I use Edsyn Deluxe SOLDAPULLT with ceramic tip (very hard to find), use it for years and years and years, just have too keep it clean like redwire said. Stay away from the Chinese knockoff.

Yes, it's a brand name and there's no difficulty finding sellers that I can see from here in the US.

And I was looking at getting a good solder sucker, now is soldapullt a brand that belongs to edsyn? Or it's an actual word that any company can use because I see some soldapullt made by different companies. The edsyn seems hard to fine.

I agree, clean and lube the sucker and get a good photo of the board with the problem. If you've lifted a pad that can be dealt with but a good picture is needed of it to advise properly.

Well I got the holes cleared enough to put the caps back in and I tried to solder them but there is one of the legs that solder doesn't flow in the hole when heat is applied. Maybe I lifted the pad and removed it? What does the pad look like on a motherboard capacitor? All the picture I see online seem to show a pad from a small PCB and it doesn't look like what I am seeing on the motherboard.

The best I worked with, in a repair shop 500x a day, are the Edsyn soldapullt or the anti-static version. Haven't tried the chinese knock-offs of it.
Trick is to put a little Lubriplate (grease) on the o-ring and inside tube. That makes a huge difference.
Many solder suckers have crappy suction and poor technique can also make people give up.

I always add flux to my wick just before using it, along the bottom 2 inches

A pump as in a solder sucker? I have one too but it seems like there is not enough solder to suck, unless my solder sucker is not that good.

    well the flux is o.k.
the mg braid is good, but probably not for this type of work.
the nexxtech junk is a mystery.

Ok so I took a picture of everything I am using right now. I also bought a 3.2mm chisel tip today, it seemed to help but I still can't pick up all the solder that i need to pick up. I tried both wick's to no avail. I also noticed sometimes when I tin the tip, the solder that was added to the tip gets transferred to the board and I end up with excess solder, is there something i'm doing wrong?

I know the super wick says for lead free solder but I don't know what kind of solder was originally used on the board, the nextech one doesn't meantion lead free but wether I used one or the other, it doesn't make a difference.

worth saying at this point, there are many fluxes for different jobs.
    some dont like high temperatures,
    some dont like lead-free solder,
some will eat your stuff like blood from an alien!

i really need to make a post soon about solders and fluxes for people.
the right solder and the right flux - both in it and seperate, make a whole world of difference.
specially with a decent iron like the 888D

if the tip is darkened and wont wet/adhere to the solder, it then becomes very hard to melt the solder and retin it again. another way u can also try instead of a wire wool is to use a tip refresher to burn away the darkened oxide layer and it also instantly retins the tip at the same time. this method seems easier for newbies. for wiping with a wire wool, u need to quickly retin the tip again or else it will become darkened again and u end up having to wipe it again and it becomes an endless loop.

however, be warned that those tip refreshers use a weak acid and is corrosive to pcbs. after dipping the tip in the refresher, make sure u wipe the tip on a wet sponge repeatedly to get rid of the acid and wash and rinse the sponge off and then wipe the tip on the freshly cleaned sponge again to remove all traces of the acid to avoid dmging boards.

In my experience, that one is a little too small to move enough heat to get good results with motherboards. I mainly use a 3.2mm chisel tip for that (T18-D32). Personal preference and technique do come into play with tip choice, though.

Ensure it's good wick, i used to struggle with it until i bought some Chemtronics, it's already fluxed i believe.

if the wick does not suck, cut only a small part and hold it with a tweezer.

in some cases the tip from the iron its to small and it can`t heat up the cooper wick and it does NOT suck.

that`s why i use 3 irons . 0.2mm 1mm and one extra i don`t know the size its so big.

Best way to solder LVDS connector for beginner (and qfn) ?
    by corrize
Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).
    See the test :

UV solder mask - high temp resistent, recomendation?
    by myth77
Can someone recommend any good UV solder mask? But i need a solder mask that will stand high temperetures. The thing is...sometimes i have a bigger cooper ripped from the board, lets say mosfet pad... i reconstract it with cooper sheet, then i "glue it" with solder mask...then i use UV light...and let it cool a bit. After, i try to clean the cooper of extra solder mask..and till that part all is ok. But, when i use a soldering iron to solder that pad/cooper...the solder mask gets weaker or destroyed and finally the pad is ripped again from the board .
    Is there any solder mask...

BGA solder balls not connecting - help pls
    by petemanuk
So I though in my spare time I’d set myself up repairing motherboards mainly pin damaged lga1151 sockets types.

I’m using an achi ir sc pro rework station (gave up on my Achie ir6500 - don’t recommend)

I’ve managed to get my rework profile somewhere in the correct region (after a lot of trial and error) to get the old sockets off and reflow new ones back on again, the problems I’m getting is not all of the solder balls are re-attaching when re-flow occurs. I know this because when socket is removed pads still look clean and have no solder...

Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum refuses to charge
    by flat-earther
I have a Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum which isn't charging its internal battery.

I opened up the unit, and it has 6x Samsung ICR18650-22P cells connected in series.
5 cells were at about 3.3-3.1V. one was at 2.4V, so I assumed this cell was bad that's why the vacuum wasn't charging so I replaced it with another 18650, but after that the problem still persists, the vacuum turns on a bit and then cuts out since the batteries are empty.

So I think the over discharged battery wasn't the culprit, it was a symptom of the unit not being able to charge its batteries....

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
    by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
