Upload a photo and someone will probably be able to work it out.

In my experience with routers, not much goes wrong except the caps. I like to put a heatsink on the cpu, and you can run these things for years, I still run an ancient asus wl500gp with openwrt.

The MOSFET was blown up that bad which meas the circuit was heavily over load so you need to check for low resistance of the load to that circuit.
Check the 4 pins on the top row against GND, then the 3 pins on the bottom row against GND to see what you get.
BTW, how about uploading the pictures of the whole board top side and the bottom side?

                    I agree.

However, routers generally come with pretty small power adapters capable of no more than 10-15 Watts output. That's enough to short a MOSFET... but to blow it like that takes a lot more energy, IMO.

Do you have any history of why the router failed? Left on during a storm perhaps? (i.e. damaged by lightning strike.) Or maybe the wrong adapter was used?

It would also help if you post a picture of the entire router board, both from the top and the bottom. That way, we might be able to figure out what that MOSFET is powering.
