What is the purpose of a fuse bulb

Ok, so not exactly an "electronics" question but I think it still applies as a general question.

I have a GE Constant On Xmas tree and it appears as though they use a non-removable fuse bulb which is blown, which causes the entire row to fail. The plug itself has two fuse already.
Does anyone have any idea why a fuse bulb is required when the plug already is fused? It just seems like it doesn't serve any purpose and just adds on more failure point.

    Thanks,

Can we see this FUSE BULB, and the fuses on the plug?

      Thanks for you quick response.
I sure can. The white ring signifies the fuse bulb.

fuse bulb is a fuse because if your other lamps are the type that short when they fail to keep the rest running then the more that fail, the more the rest get overdriven.

that bulb will pull out btw.

I can give it a try again but according to the instruction, this is not a removeable lamp and if I attempt it I will void the warranty...even though the warranty doesn't matter. I also did a slight attempt to pull it out w/o success.

Unplug it, cut the wires at the bottom of it, strip the wires and connect them, tape it up and enjoy.

Or splice in a fuse holder if that makes you happy, LOL.

look at your own foto, you can put the end of a blade between the white inner lamp-base and the green holder and lever it up.

Ah, I didn't think about that. It deffinally doesn't come out with a good tug. Cut and splice was my next option but we were going to wait until the entire warranty is up (3 years on the lights, 5 years on the tree). I assume it's there for a reason so I don't want to jumper the wires.
One would expect better design for General Electric unless this is the "general" part of their electrical.
Although I know I wouldn't get an acceptable answer, when I asked the support person why they might have supplied two removable fuses in the plug but made an non-removeable light bulb one in the rest of the circuit, she said, "Well, it's UL certified". I'm going to assume UL just wants the fuses in there and probably said nothing about it being non-removeable. Uhhg.

                          by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
                          The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

TOSHIBA DLP 52HM95 How to reset timer module on bulb
                          by repair-it
I replaced the bulb only on my Toshiba DLP The bulb is a TB-25. This is the first time I've done a bulb only replacement. Supposedly there is a timer module that needs to be re-calibrated or reset. I don't know where the module is located. I see some vendors selling the bulb with the housing stating module included which leads me to think the module is located inside the enclosure the bulb mounts in, but I didn't see it. Maybe it's inside the plug attached to the bulb?

Anyway - I am seeking information on how to reset this so called module so that the lamp will operate. Apparently...

                          LUMIMAN Smart Bulb IC ID?
                          by ezenia
                          Hi,

I have a LUMIMAN Smart Bulb that suddenly stopped lighting one day. The bulb is still detected in the app, but won't light. I've probed around and nothing seems to look off with any of the diodes, caps or resistors. The Bluetooth/Wi-Fi module seems to be working as it's still detected in the app. I even tried deleting and re-pairing the bulb (it didn't light, but I was still able to follow the pairing instructions), it re-paired fine, but still no light.

In diode mode, the LEDs all light up when probed so I'm guessing this means the LEDs themselves are OK. I was expecting...

Help replacing fuse on my Mimaki CJV300-160 vinyl printer
                          by jshhh
                          Hi guys,

I'm inexperienced with electronics repairs, I've done a little bit of soldering caps and whatnot, but i have a blown fuse on this mimaki printer I got which I have bought a replacement for.

How do I remove this type of fuse (see picture)...it kinda looks like it would pull out of that bracket but it didn't come at first pull and I didn't want to brute force it incase it's soldered on there like most of the rest of the components.

Anybody know how to remove this type of fuse?

(The fuse is toward the bottom of the image labeled F2)...

Argon SA1 audio amplifier power-supply - fuse blown after fixing the short?
                          by Babbar
I found a project in the electronics trash yesterday. A nice Argon SA1 audio amp with some electrical issue. Took it apart and saw that the 4A250V fuse was blown so started lifting components to find the short. Eventually got to two MOSFETs (model FTA14N50C) that are shorted and when i took them out the short was gone.

Now i didn't have any replacements of the same model of course but i found a couple with pretty similar spec i thought (K10A60D & K12A50D) and put them in. Also replaced the blown fuse with a 3.5A250V one. Checked another time for short circuit and plugged it in....
