Help with component suitability in PLL Transmitter

    Hi Guys,

I initially posted my question here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39037 as it's also related to the suitability of a Capacitor, but since it's probably more Electronics related I thought I might get a better response here.

I plan on completing the build today, so would love to hear some replies from the experienced guys in this field.

In a nutshell, the circuit is a 4W PLL transmitter and the electrolytic Capacitors I'm planning on using are nowhere near RF - they're near the logic stages as far as I can tell.

A huge thanks in advance for your educated replies and help.

Re: Help with component suitability in PLL Transmitter

There is no need for Low-ESR capacitors on a 4W PLL transmitter.
You will use regular parts, and you will use a transformer based PSU for it, so to avoid a pulsing power supply and all it harmonics.
I am aware that you are after the perfect possible result in your assembly, but this is a classic design that is used for 25 years now, and does not need any magic so to become perfect.

      Hi Kiriakos,

I've ran out of general purpose Electrolytic Capacitors as I've used them all up on the build - I just wonder, since I only have low ESR left (Panasonic FC), is it OK to use these only in component positions, C68, C69, and C70 as shown on the schematic?

      Many thanks for your input.

It will be fine to use them.

The use of parts with better specifications in basic applications seems as waste to me, but if works best for you.. then use them.

Regarding the schematic, the picture is not that great for seeing details, what it is important is to not use higher capacity than what is suggested.

Is there a place I can download that diagram/manual of what you posted?

Yes, that's the latest kit, the Pro IV - just some slight refinements to the Pro III.

There's a Guy on eBay currently selling copies of the PCB for the Pro IV at about $10 your money and the quality is excellent. I recently bought one, and the track side is all gold plated and a pleasure to solder with.

I will have my Pro IV completed in a couple of days when my component order comes through.

                  Sony MDR-IF245R transmitter LED replacement
                  by lti
I'm looking at the transmitter from these wireless headphones because the range is too short. One of the LEDs failed many years ago (nine years ago - I found pictures that I took then) and was simply bypassed to make them work again, but it seems like the range has been degrading since then. They're near-IR LEDs (I can see them dimly lit red, so they aren't the standard 940nm), and I haven't been able to find the actual wavelength. Does anyone here happen to know what replacement LEDs I should use? Maybe I can adjust the transmitter was well while I'm in there, or there's another fault. I should...

                  by Stephen
Board was just repaired, great thing for us since the DATA was recovered, however the battery was just replaced with a brand new OEM battery and holds the charge well, I plug it in and the charge icon comes on (lightning bolt) then it goes off and comes back again and repeats itself, The MagSafe 3 Amber light is turning off and on constantly, which is telling me something else is going on, before I pull this board out again I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue since its a little new to me on this model. Battery is holding the charge well at 52% but it won't charge further, I checked...

A2229 ipad pro 12.9 4gen strange problem Logic Board related charging but no usb data
                  by badboyzzz
I have a strange problem with my iPad Pro 12.9 4Gen / A2229. When I start the device, it stays on the Apple logo, but when I heat the back of the device with a hair dryer, the device boots, but this time there is an interesting problem. The iPad is charging, but there is no USB data on the computer. The USB charging port has been changed and the chips seem normal, but I have given it to 2 different Apple services in Latvia, but the repair could not be done. Is there anyone who can help with this? Can someone support the repair by sending only the motherboard within Europe? Thank you.
