• CRT Panasonic Quintrix TX-28DK1 going into standby

Hi Guys,

This is a CRT TV, and here are the symptoms; Over the course of the past couple of weeks, while watching TV on it, the thing would just go into standby. Sometimes it will work as normal for 2 hours, and other times the fault will happen after 30 mins - it's intermittent and sporadic.

Sometimes it will turn back on, but now when trying to turn it back on - it automatically goes back into standby after around 3 to 4 seconds. It wont switch on at all now.

Does anybody know where I should be looking to fix the fault?

Being a former...

Yes, that's the latest kit, the Pro IV - just some slight refinements to the Pro III.

There's a Guy on eBay currently selling copies of the PCB for the Pro IV at about $10 your money and the quality is excellent. I recently bought one, and the track side is all gold plated and a pleasure to solder with.

I will have my Pro IV completed in a couple of days when my component order comes through....

I'm about to finish building my 2nd one, and have just commenced building a Pro IV latest version this evening - I'm about 50% into the build.
These NRG kits have a good following in the Pirate Radio scene, albeit they're quite large.
I was going to put one on air for an hour or two, but always bottle it - and instead use it into a dummy load as an "all house" transmitter....

Hi mate,

The documentation, schematic, and build instructions are here under "PLL Pro 3", the 4th link down (16MB) as far as I'm aware - http://www.gareth.net.nz/nrgdocs/

There is actually a part kit available on eBay UK as we speak, and that's where I've bought mine from.

If you have no success at the site above, just PM me and I'll send a scan of my build instructions, etc'.. via eMail.Re: Is the Panasonic FC suitable for...circuit?<br />...

Hi Kiriakos,

I've ran out of general purpose Electrolytic Capacitors as I've used them all up on the build - I just wonder, since I only have low ESR left (Panasonic FC), is it OK to use these only in component positions, C68, C69, and C70 as shown on the schematic?

Many thanks for your input.

Thanks for the replies Guys.

I've posted another image of the schematic, and although the quality of my camera phone isn't too good you can still make everything out.

Again, the pen is pointing to the area in which I'm planning on using these low ESR Panasonic FC Cap's - and the IC's that they're mostly connected to are IC4 which is a 74ALS74, and IC5 which is a 74HC4059E; A CMOS flip flop and CMOS divide by counter respectively.

The Capacitors are in close proximity to transistors, and...

• Help with component suitability in PLL Transmitter

Hi Guys,

I initially posted my question here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39037 as it's also related to the suitability of a Capacitor, but since it's probably more Electronics related I thought I might get a better response here.

I plan on completing the build today, so would love to hear some replies from the experienced guys in this field.

In a nutshell, the circuit is a 4W PLL transmitter and the electrolytic Capacitors I'm planning on using are nowhere near RF - they're near the logic stages as far as I can tell....

• Is the Panasonic FC suitable for this circuit?

Hi Guys,

I'm almost finished building a PLL Transmitter, but wanted to pose a question to the experts here before continuing with the build.

I used Panasonic NHG general purpose Capacitors everywhere where Electrolytics needed to be fitted, but for C68, C69, and C70 in the area I'm pointing at with the pen, I'm thinking about using some Panasonic FC as these are the only Cap's I have left; I believe they're low ESR.

I also plan on using one in parallel with the output of a 7805 regulator, as I believe low ESR are ideal for power supply applications...

• Re: Advice on decent GP Electrolytic sought..

Thanks, Selldoor.

I was considering using RS or Farnell anyway, and that way the components would be legit'.
I'm open to other suggestions, but if there are no other replies I'll go for ones you suggest.

• Advice on decent GP Electrolytic sought..

Hi Guys,

I'm about to buy a PLL Transmitter kit, but the kit comes minus various components including Electrolytic Capacitors.

I've done some reading around, and I'm led to believe that Rubycon, Panasonic, Nichicon, and a couple of others are the best brands - but there are that many different part #s, type codes, and impedance values that things have got a little muddy.

Here is an image of the PLL circuit that the Capacitors are to be used in, and I guess what I'm asking is; What's a decent long life general purpose Capacitor for the job?

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Just signing in to say hello from Manchester, UK.

My main interests are RF Electronics and RC Helicopters, and I found this site high on the list of Google hits while searching for reputable Capacitors.
