Just in time - I am away now for a week - all depends on how you are going to use it.
If you will ever want to use the adapter then I would replace the socket.
If you just want to use on battery then bypass the socket all together.
If you take the socket off you may be able to correct the switch problem or replace it with a new one Whatever -you have nothing to lose by taking it off and trying.

However you may wish to do the bypass for now and if it all works on battery then look to doing something with the socket.

to bypass the socket just to see if it works is there any harm in taking the black and red wires to the main board?

If you mean to power straight from the battery - then no harm - I believe the circuitry on that half of the little board is mainly to help cut out ac that might get through from the adapter.

ok i removed the socket and ...well......i would have thought that this would allow the batteries to do their job............i removed the socket, inserted all the batteries, flipped the switch and .......nothing.........still did not work..........

No - dont think that right - the switch in the socket switches the battery on when the
adapter is removed ( But the switch is not working). If you remove the socket and the switch then the battery will still not be switched on. I still think if you just solder a wire from black to black you will be ok

                        Hello, all.

                        Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
                        I quickly removed everything...

Janome DC3050 Sewing Machine Pedal Resistance
                        by CG2
OK, this is a long shot. I got this sewing machine cheap because it's end of line, ex-display, and had no pedal. The genuine pedal costs £60, while Ebay knock-offs go for around £15. So I went for the knock-off, it doesn't work, and I'm not sure whether it's the pedal or the sewing machine that has the problem.

Now this is an electronic machine, unlike the old fashioned sort where the pedal was a big resistor in series with the power to the motor. Here, the pedal is just (I think) a variable resistor fed with a 5 volt supply, and limited to a current of 5 milliamps. Assuming that...

                        HELP! A1398 Dead,
                        by Fam787
I bought a second hand Mid 2014 A1398 MacBook Pro when I lived in Australia. I'd bought it as a back-up machine because I had a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro, and realising it might one day fail, I wanted a backup machine because I don't like change.

Two weeks after buying MBP2, the seller called me to check if everything was OK with the unit, which I thought was odd. At that stage I might have turned it on a couple of times, but I'd not used it when he'd called. Over the last few years I used the machine seldomly because my original mac has been pretty OK. Every 3-6 months I'd charge it...
