DVI to hdmi cable help

Hi guys at the forums, this is going to be a bit a of a challenge The back light on my monitor has failed but its ok. I have a 22 in hd tv with hdmi connection however I do not have one of those dvi-i to hdmi cables. What i do have is a dvi-i to vga block adaptor and a hdmi cable i don't mind cutting up. Can this be done to make a (DIY) DVI to HDMi? If so can you please explain to me

no, the connectors on the dvi side are literally hooked to a vga output pins on the dvi port

dvi-hdmi adapters are cheap

I agree with U-235 above regarding cheap adapters, but that's not going to make a failed display units back light start being operational.

Unless I'm missing something?

I saw where he said his backlight was inop, but somehow missed the part where his substitute display unit is incapable of receiving the only available input cable type. Sorry, I was thinking he was looking to fix a bad backlight by switching inputs. My bad.

I had to read his post multiple times to finally "get it".

TV's generally suck as monitors.

Wouldn't it be easier to fix the back light?

You didn't enter your location in your profile but around here you can pick up a CRT at about any Goodwill type place as a quick/temp fix for like $10.

my tv makes an AWESOME monitor, but its with Win7 and DPI scaling up to max

its clear, crisp---but then again, its 46", not 22. the only complain I have is ghosting, TV's don't have that terribly great a response time, so, if you're playing games, expect ghosting

The main problem with TV's is getting them to run from a computer without scaling. Scaling==bad! Frank's 2000 Inch TV may scale well but none of the rest do.

mine does perfectly. just set it for native resolution of the tv...no scaling needed
