    Northbridge TEST

    Hi all

Is there a way of testing a Motherboard Northbridge ??

I've heard it should be checked the smd capacitors placed in CPU Socket as well as a mosfet near Northbrigde.

    What is your opinion??

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Northbridge TEST

The SMD capacitors in the CPU socket [at least most of them] are on Vcore and don't have anything to do with the Northbridge.
They are small uF and there to filter out noise frequencies higher than the Ripple from the PSU and VRM MOSFETs.
    - AKA: 'EMI' or 'RF noise'.

The best way to test a Northbridge is to test the Motherboard.

      .

Do you mean I first must check if the other parts of the MB work ??

      Thanks for responsing!

Basically drop a CPU, some RAM and a video card in and see if it powers up... A POST code card helps a lot if the monitor doesn't come up. If you don't have one, buy one, coz they're dirt cheap on dealextreme. I don't have one yet but i plan to get two... one for PCs one for laptops.

          Re: Northbridge TEST

The Northbridge is basically the main controller chip for the whole motherboard.
Has MANY functions that would need tested.
Only practical way to test one is to test the whole motherboard.

            Hello again!

I've also heard other way of knowing when a northbridge is faulty is if one or more of the capacitors on it has/have a resistence value less than 30 ohms.

they'd usually have a much greater value

Does anyone have an experience/comment with this test?

I just tested my NB and really some of the capacitors have aprox. 400 ohms and the others have 1, that is, open!

            Regards!

Considering you have no clue what your doing the answer is no.

You cant just start measuring capacitors and find one under 30 ohms and say the northbridge is faulty. The only true way (without removing the chip and placing it in test equipment setup just to test it) is to have the board boot and insure you have no northbridge issues.

Considering you never said what the problem was and what board it is my guess is you picked a word (northbridge) and started talking about it like you knew what you were doing. That isnt going to get you alot of help.

                That will tell you nothing.
Caps in or near a Northbridge can have parallel components.

How Can I test PWM DM0365R?
                  by chth96
                  Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor....

test active pfc power with lamp test
                  by khelane
                  Hello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
                  Is there a way...

Mats / mods: detected and repaired GPU fault. Cant seem to test after!
                  by chronic519
                  Hello.

GPU came in, green lines. Spent lots of time using to get the Mats / mods drive working (found on youtube).
Found issue with a RAM block
                  Replaced, green lines gone.
Trying to test again, assuming getting the false positive. Originally had over 1K on a single bank. Now getting tosses low between banks.
Used a good card to test and same results low errors 32+.

I am just search for some form of command to do a full test on the GPU.
I just ran the mats command with my good GPU and passed after roughly 40 min.
                  The repaired one, ran...

Lg TCon test pins for screen test
                  by alltvrepairs
                  Hi,
i have a 65 Panasonic TX-65HX710E using vestel 17MB170 main and Lg tcon.

Few drops of water fell probably near COF and have no display. Tried removing tabs but no.part of display present as if tcon fuse open. However 12v is present and tcon can be felt warm enough that supplies are present. Backlight and sound ok.

Anyone knows if this TCon 6870c-0805A has any special test pins for rgb test?

                  Appreciate your help....

Samsung LN40C630K1F LCD TV No Backlights and Flashlight Test Fail
                  by signal.quest
                  Hi all,

I have been working on a Samsung LN40C630K1F LCD TV. On power up the backlights only briefly light up when first powered on then they go out (2 seconds to black). The flashlight test also fails. The sound works fine. Please see attached pics.

I have researched the forums a lot. I have watched the videos of trying to locate the bad CCFL or transformer and bypassing. I can't find any evidence of a bad transformer/CCFL. I verified I get 376V from the big caps to the fuse. I have used a small/cheap oscilloscope and it looks like the MOSFETs on the inverter...
