that dick smith kit is the best.
i have 2 and prefer them over that 179.00 one with the tweezer probe.

      Re: ESR Meter

Good soldering project. Can't rmember how many exactly, but a LOT of soldered joints in construction. But it's not too difficult. After all, I built one!

Hint: Found out afterwards that it helps if you read the instructions first

If you look around, you can find a site with some useful mods to the basic design which may care to impliment during construction such as reducing the power to the LCD to acheive consdierably longer battery life.

However if you live in Australia, a root canal from your local dentist might just be a less painful experience than attempting mail order from Dick Smith. It would be an act of supreme desperation if I ever placed an order again - not really sure that I could bring myself to do it. It takes a lot to reduce me to a raving lunatic on the phone but even I have my limits and Dick Smith Electronics exceeded those by a more than just a considerable margin.

But full marks to them for consistency. On the three occassions that I have ordered from them in the past, they have always managed to set a new standard for incompetence. If there was an award for such a feat, it would be no contest.

Changing the scale of an analog meter
          by jorpec
          Hi

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

          Hi There,
When this set developed this fault a member of the family passed it on to me,while they bought a newer set.
On power up via the separate 19v SMPSU, a dark screen, backlights and sound OK.
On removing the rear cover later, I checked the TCON board and ordered a replacement just in case. The replacement board made no difference.Prior to replacing the TCON board,I cleaned all 3 ribbon cables with iso prop alcohol.
Disconnecting one of the two LCD ribbons going to the LCD/Gate driver boards, managed to get half a working RHS screen with half the SONY logo "NY"...

Hilti PD30 Laser Range meter Error 276
          by Dannyx
Good day folks.....wow, seems like forever since I posted anything here Still alive and well, thank you I guess you could say I've become more independent and able to work stuff out on my own. This one though goes way over my head and I doubt is fixable, but maybe some bright spark out there has an equally bright idea.

So: my Hilti PD30 laser meter quit on me just the other day. It was working fine, I set it down for a while and when I tried using it again it gave me an E276 and wouldn't do anything else. I tried taking out the batteries, all that standard stuff but nothing...

          Magnetic Stirrer Project Reset
          by EasyGoing1
So based on some of the comments in my other posts, there seems to be some confusion or maybe some assumptions, I'm not sure exactly, so I wanted to hit the reset button on the entire discussion and make a few things clear that might not have otherwise been obvious.

First of all, the reason I post in this forum is that I simply do not have enough knowledge in electronics to do some things that I would like to do. So I post my questions in here and I try to be as thorough as possible MOST of the time, so that those of you who do take the time to respond, will be as informed as possible...
