Re: Coolermaster Recap
Looks like they have finally caught up with the 21st century. Would never order from them in the past because freight was a killer.
Doesn't look like they have the higher values I need in a 10mm can though unfortunately....

Re: Coolermaster PSU Recap Help
Yeah, was wasting space at work for quite a while till I swapped it for a coral trout
I had replaced the fan once on this but four years service life is better than average.
Speaking of which, any recommendations for a quality fan which will go the distance?
Preferably an Australian source please....Last edited by Neo2_000; 04-28-2015, 03:17 PM.

Hey, what do you guys think of this. For an engineering illiterate like myself, I found it to be great info.
I am just wondering how pertinent it is today as it is a bit dated. At least it answered my question:
But also this: (What are your thoughts?)Re: Coolermaster Recap

Re: Coolermaster Recap
RS sells in lots of 5 so it would be good to be versatile.
Cap voltages generally range from 6.3V to 16V.
Assuming we maintain the minimum voltage spec for a given cap, is there any downside to ordering say five 16V caps to cover lower voltage caps of the same uF value?Last edited by Neo2_000; 04-28-2015, 05:41 AM.

Re: Coolermaster Recap
I was baulking at ordering from RS Components but now I see that they are offering free delivery for Australia?
Any strings attached to this?
If not, I might give it a go.Last edited by Neo2_000; 04-28-2015, 01:32 AM.

Re: Coolermaster Recap
Thanks for all your help guys. Seems I sure could use it. I have been using mobo series caps without realising these were unsuitable.
Just had a bright idea. I no longer recap motherboards and have quite a lot of mostly Ruby's, some Saxon's and Nichicons in popular mobo values. I live in Australia.
Would anyone be interested in doing a swap or alternately purchasing these? (see attachments)
Here is what I need for my current project but I really should stock up on PSU repair caps now so would be interested in acquiring...

Coolermaster Recap
Hey Guys,
Need some advice from the electronic engineers amongst you.
My PC went flaky last night.
The fan had failed on the PSU and half a dozen caps were bulging.
It's not a cheapie and has served well for 4 years so I am hoping to redeem it.
I have the correct value caps except for the two new blue Ruby's under the heatsink beside the coil.
The originals were 680uF x 16V Capxons.
Would it be OK to use 1000uF x 16V as replacements here?
I am hoping precise values are not critical.
Thanks in advance...

Re: CDI or Igniter box repair
Remember when I used to live in Brisbane. A guy there was doing that with outboard CDI units which are very expensive. A good place to start would be a polyester resin (fibreglass) supplier. If they do not know, they might point you to a factory rep who could help.

Re: Cheap Chinese Cap Meter
Got the meter and have been playing testing it out.
Seems good enough and no blue sticker despite the picture!
Tested about a dozen DS brand 1000uF caps. They ranged from 200uF to 2000uF and climbing after which some open circuited!
You really gain an appreciation of why motherboards go crazy when they are subject to that kind of variation.

Re: Any bad experiences with Suntan caps?
Just got caught myself. Ordered about 15 odd values from Jaycar.
In the pictures on their online catalogue they feature Samxons which is why I ordered from them.
However, when I received the order, behold - Suntan caps.
Well, I could always wear them to the beach!
But like you say, never again!

Re: USB problems
Have you checked the pinouts on your mobo USB headers. These are NOT always the standard RWGB.
You can cause serious to your mobo if you take that foregranted as a friend of mine recently found out the hard way.

Re: Asus motherboards
I would have put them both ahead of GSC.
Lelon - gold cup. Chhsi - silver trophy.
But then at least they are honest - you can see them when they blow.

Re: Asus motherboards
Seeing a few P4S800s coming in with all panasonics. Something else is failing on these boards. Not having the expertise to diagnose it, I just salvage the caps from the board.

Re: Cheap Chinese Cap Meter
Took the plunge into China for A$40. The real question now is, what lies behind the blue sticker?
From what I can gather, these units seem to be manufactured by the Handsun Corporation in China and rebadged for various distributors, even American ones.
I can find no evidence that the American unit is manufactured in the USA.

Re: Cheap Chinese Cap Meter
Can't remember the names. Sound like carbon copies from what you are saying though. No patent protection in China?
Genuine Vs Ripoff (Blue Label)...

Re: Bad video cards
A bad video card could destroy a Mobo. So can a bad power supply, RAM or probably another other plugin you care to name. Anything that creates a direct short has the potential to cause destruction.
I have seen a graphics card cause problems, but this is about as rare as a blown CPU and you would expect to see corruption in the output to say the very least. More often, I have seen more dodgy RAM blow out a RAM slot - a burning smell and smoke are always good giveaways.
More frequently, I have seen a power supply outright kill a motherboard...

Re: Cheap Chinese Cap Meter
This reminds me of the Ebay Chinese Hakko Soldering Iron ripoffs that reputedly fell over after a few months of use.
However, electronics may just be OK??? I have bought Red Cable Testers before which were quite OK.
Guess I am just hoping that if I do buy this gift horse, it is not going to make me look like a donkey!
