Samsung UN46C6300SFXZA lines on screen

Hello,

I have a Samsung UN46C6300SFXZA that developed lines on the screen. I had a similar tv older model and when that happened, I ordered the T-con and fixed it, lines went away.

Now, this time I ordered the t-con for the UN46C6300SF from Tri-State Module, but did not have the luck I had last time, lines still showing.

I attached two pics to this post.

Also, when I disconnected the LVDS cable from the main board to the t-con, the lines disappeared. If the LCD is bad itself, aren't the lines suppose to still showing up when I disconnect the LVDS cable? Or am I wrong?

mainboard issue. it could/is your graphic chip. try heat gun over main processor

Hello!
I have the same problem (or so I think) with a Samsung UE55C6000. Originally the TV would not turn on, I changed the main board with a one used from Ebay and boot, but appeared a yellow stripes across the width of the screen, each 4 Horizontal pixel curiously, had a column in yellow.
I changed the T-CON and stripes was turned black. If I put the T-CON original, stripes are again yellow.
I also change the flex between the main and T-con, without difference.
I read about doing reflow with heat gun or an oven, it's dangerous? It is possible that the new board was defective?

Thank you all for the replies. I will be letting you know the outcome. I will try what DemonBG did to the TV, going to put pressure on the chips. Whatever happens, I have a heat gun and flux that I can use.

I tried what DemonBG suggested, using a heat gun. Unfortunately, it did not work, and instead it made it worse, but the lines still there.

Let me ask you guys this, check out this issue:
I have the UN46C6300SFXZA which has lines (pictures added before). I disconnected the flex cable from the t-con to the main board. When I turned the TV on, I saw the screen flash to a whitish color, then dark again while the light blinked 5 times. A second or two after the last blink, the sound came up, and of course there was nothing on the screen because I had the flex cable disconnected, but there were no lines.

Now, I purchased another TV UN46D6050TFXZA, it had sound but no picture. What I described above, its happening to this TV. The only difference is that all the cables are connected. When you turn it on, you can see the screen turns like a whitish color, then dark, then the light blinks, then there is sound, and the screen changes the whitish color on and off. So the issue on TV UN46D6050TFXZA happens with all the cables connected, but for TV UN46C6300SFXZA, the issue is identical with the flex cable disconnected. Both have sound after the light blinks 5 times, but no picture, UNLESS, I connect the flex cable to UN46C6300SFXZA which then shows lines all over.

Am I explaining correctly?

Also, I noticed that when I connect the power cable, there is a small spark happening, and that does not happen with the UN46C6300SFXZA.

I do not think its t-con, I'm also thinking its main board too.

The main boards are expensive on both TVs. I'm trying to minimize the issue and try to buy the correct part without buying too many, anyway, main boards are out of stock as we speak,

Any other ideas, tests?

I got a question. I have noticed that when a Samsung TV turns on, there is sound. And when the main board has an issue, the sound is not heard when the TV turns on.

UN46C6300SFXZA <- has sound when the TV turns on

UN46D6050TFXZA <- there is NO sound when the TV turns on

Can anyone tell me if you own a Samsung UN46D6050TFXZA, when you turn the TV on, if you hear sound?

Or no?

Also, on the other Samsung models I've had, the power supply makes a clicking sound when the TV turns on, and when the TV turns off. I do not hear that click sound at all.

Can someone confirm these two questions for me?

Did you try removing one by one the two ribbons, going to the panel and see if there are any differences in the image(good image on one half screen)?

The TV should make a click noise when the set turns on and off as the primary relay activates / deactivates. Some sets have a louder relay than others...

When it comes to the startup chime: this can be turned on or off in the menu so again it's not a prefect indication..

@tibimakai - When I disconnected each ribbon cable one at a time, the lines were not there. I attached a picture.

@DemonBG - I got two smart tvs that you do not hear the chime when you turn on the tv, but the UN46C6300SFXZA is not smart tv and the chime is there. I guess I will wait til I fix the other one (UN46D6050TFXZA).

Keep in mind if you do a Reflow on BGA, you can make it worse if you don't use TC's(thermocouples) to keep track of your temps. Leaded solder melts at 217c and lead free around 180c You can also burn/popcorn a chip if too hot and bridge solder spheres. If you have a graphics BGA related issue, it's best to do it right, heatgun is just a trick but you can actually repair the cracked whiskers if you do it right.

The fact that your attempted reflow made it worse (i.e. changed something) shows you are looking at the correct thing!

Best way to confirm its a bad BGA solder is to put some pressure on the BGA chips which you suspect and see if anything changes...


As ALR said, to reflow properly you need an actual reflow station - In lieu of this, a heatgun, flux and a temperature probe MIGHT work if you are careful; but you do need to monitor the temperatures...

Either way, i would be reasonably confident in saying this is a main board problem...

UPDATE:

It was hard to find main board BN94-03366L (original MB). I searched online and found out there are multiple substitute main board parts for UN46C6300SFXZA TV, so I found BN94-03366H and ordered one from TriState Module, but unfortunately it arrived DOS (the main board was shorted). Returned it the very next day, but to my luck, I checked eBay and saw a seller in Florida selling the same board with Best Offer option, so I offered and got it accepted. The board arrived in two days and wala, like most of you mentioned, it was indeed the main board.

Probably this post will help someone else down the road. Thank you all for your advice and help!

Well after a long time with this parked tv, I have started again and I got another mainboard with the known problem of a bad chip, the graphics processor, soon working the screen was filling pixels in other colors and final of yellow vertical lines. But these symptoms disappeared when a little pressure on the chip. All this in a samsung UE32C6530.

First I applied heat with a heat gun, controlling temperature, and then I have mounted the tv to make sure it worked, as it were. Only some artifacts introduced after two hours on, returning to disappear when, now minimal pressure.

So I've ridden, and the graphics chip I put a block of thermal silicone, as there is in many tv, s of gray or brown. On this one, and making continuous pressure, aluminum heatsink bolted to the chassis.

I must say with great joy that takes over 8 days working perfectly, including long sessions of GTA V, and I have changed the settings from the service menu to the current panel, and I'm thinking to flash the firmware to the model panel, UE55C6000, but the truth is that it looks luxurious .

If it fails again, the next step would be a reballing, about 60 € for now I save.

You have proven the fault lies with the BGA, that is good... but you will probably find you have to reflow or reball to get a 'real' fix.
