Samsung LNS3251DA won’t power on, no sound, no standby light-power board problems

When the power cord is plugged in, the standby LED flashes once and goes out. The set does not power up. This model uses power board BN96-03775A. To provide a search reference for others with similar problems, this power board is also listed for models LNS3251D, LNS3251DX, LN32B530FXZA, LN40B530FXZA, LN3241D, LN3241DC, LN3241DX, LNS3238DX, LE32S73BDX, LES3251D, LES3251DA, LES3251DX, LES3251D, LES3251DX. There is an “XXA” suffix after many of these models on a second tag on the back of the set.
The power board appears to be the problem. With the main board disconnected, the only output voltage is 6.02 VDC at what appears to be one of the power-on pins. There is no 5.4, 12 or 13 volt output. On the inverter side, there is no 24 volt output. There is no voltage to any of the “cold” side components except for the single pin noted above. This power source comes directly from the “hot” side and is not associated with the transformer that feeds the other components. There was one swollen capacitor which I replaced, but did not fix the problem. Close examination with a magnifying glass showed no signs of excess heat or other damage. I could not find any cracked solder joints on the back side of the board. There is AC power to the board and voltage to all components on the “Hot” side. Jumpers and most components have an input voltage of ~78.5 VDC. A few pins that appear to feed the power-on circuit have “hot” side voltages in the 40-60 range and outputs to the “cold” side of 4 to 6.02 VDC.
I could use a schematic, parts list, and some ideas of where to look next. Possibly the 5.4 VDC standby circuit might be out so the board won't start. I doubt the absence of the standby light has much meaning because the set could have died while powered up and the mainboard thinks it's powered on. Could be a bad transformer, but am hoping it's a fuse or diode-something easy to purchase locally. A few pictures are attached. Thanks for any help you can provide.

To get a schematic, I need the "BN44" number, does this set have one?

hav you checked the pico fuse located around the two large filter caps? had one of these a while back, if i remember correctly a diode close by shorted and blew the fuse. dont remember the number location by part number designation but it is close to the two large caps. thee set was totally dead as far as power light or turn on. dont remember but two fuses the agc one and the pico.

Sorry, practically every component has a BN#, but didn't see anything starting with BN44. There is a model number, LN-S3251D A, and a model code, LNS3251DX/XXA. A second label on the back has the model code, serial number and a version number AM03. No stickers inside the case. Thanks for the quick response.

just pulled my notes this is bn96-03775a power board. the a version uses one main cap . a brown rectangular fuse fd0025 near main cap and a pico fn831 near the detect pin plus the agc type so three fuses on the supply. i had to cross ref one a while back bridge shorted and blew traces the older one and newer one are 03755 nnd newer one the a rev.

Thanks, response has been amazing. Tom66, followed your link and got the schematic. Very helpful.

Awyatt2, couldn't quite match the numbers you provided. Still no trouble finding the first two fuses. Both have full contenuity with zero resistance. The pico fuse was more of a problem. Thought they were small fuses that looked like resisters without the stripes. None of those on the board. I have no FN831 location. However, do have a location FM851 (see picture), Part actually looks like kinda like a ceramic capacitor, and board shows a resister symbol, but checked DigKey and they had some similar pico fuses. Multimeter shows contenuity with zero ohms. Location is as you described. So looks like the fuses are OK. Will start checking diodes in the morning and post the results. Would appreciate any additional thoughts.

That does look like a pico fuse to me too.

                  That looks like auto-resettable fuse

Good point, it is probably a PTC fuse. Pico fuse is permanent blow for through hole, but often auto-reset for SMD. Go figure.

Re: Samsung LNS3251DA won't power on, no sound, no standby light-power board problem

Since this board does not have built-in pull up resistor for the ON/OFF pin, he needs to use 1K resistor between ON/OFF PIN1 CNM801, and PIN2 (6VSTBY) CNM801.
Also "There is AC power to the board and voltage to all components on the “Hot” side. Jumpers and most components have an input voltage of ~78.5 VDC. A few pins that appear to feed the power-on circuit have “hot” side voltages in the 40-60 range and outputs to the “cold” side of 4 to 6.02 VDC. "
That means you are not using correct ground ref point when measuring the DC voltages on the HOT side, you need to use the neagtive leg of the Capacitor CP812 as your ground ref. The secondary side use the chassis as the ground ref.

The voltage on CP812 should go up from 170VDC to around 380vdc (PFC kicks on) when the ON/OFF signal is applied.

My Samsung LS-S3251D would not power on due to failing capacitors on the power supply. Failing capacitor location numbers were CM858, CM860, CM861, CS852, CS802. My TV works great after replacing all of these.

I was working on a Samsung LNS3251DX today. I found the power supply to be at fault. Right away I noticed four bad capacitors so I changed those out. But still no power. After extensive testing of the board I noticed a popped resistor RM801. My Power Board is BN96-03057A. I cut the resistor and tested for ohms but it was an open circuit no matter what. The value is 0.22 Ohms. Tested all the fuses to be good. So I ordered some replacement resistors and I think the TV will be up and running when I change that out.

That is the fusible resistor so more likely you have have shorted IC 801S, or cap CM801. You also need to check RM803 to see if it also goes open circuit or not, something is drawing too much current.

You did it again budm. You are right. You sure do know your stuff. Well I tested everything you said and found RM803 to be shorted. 00.0 Ohms and it says R2K so I am pretty sure that means 2000 Ohms and not 0. Now the only problem is finding a replacement

I guess I can use any ceramic resistor that is 2K Ohms and 5W to 10W. Correct me if I am wrong.

It's unusual for resistors to go short circuit. Open circuit is the norm.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

                                          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

                                          Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
