    Rocnation Audio Jack

    Does any know the wiring for a Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator headphone audio jack?

    It's a TRRS 4 panel jack.

    I don't know which colour to solder to which panel.

    The colours I have are:
    Red
    Red/green
    green
    copper

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Re: Rocnation Audio Jack

    i suspect red and red/green is one side with red being the +
    and the green and copper is the other side with green being the +

    once you tin the ends, you can hold them on the new plug to test the theory.

    btw, what the hell is a "TRRS 4 panel jack."

      The 3.5mm 1/8" audio jack/connector has 4 parts instead of 3.
      T=tip
      R=ring
      R=ring (2)
      S=sleeve

      Normal TRS jacks have just 1 ring.

            There are two standards in use for headsets with a mic used on mobile and game consoles.

            OMTP: Used by old Nokia (and also Lumia starting from the 2nd gen[16]), old Samsung (2012 Chromebooks), old Sony Ericsson (2010 and 2011 Xperias), old Wiko (2012-), Sony (PlayStation Vita), OnePlus One
            T = L
            R = R
            R = Mic
            S = Common

            CTIA: Used by Apple, HTC, latest Nokia, latest Samsung, latest Wiko (2013+), Jolla, Sony (Dualshock 4), Microsoft (including Surface, Lumia, and XboxOne controller with chat adapter) most Android phones
            T = L
            R = R
            R = Common
            S = Mic

            Concerning your wire colors bare copper is common, red is probably right and you'll need to test out the others to determine which is left and and which is mic. A guess would be that green is left and red-green is mic.

              It will be easy to tell which wires are for the speakers in the headphone left and right, the Ohm meter will show the resistnce of the speaker which can be from 8 ~32 Ohms, the MIC will be much higher resistance. You can also hear the pop on the speaker when you use beeper mode on the meter when you touch/un-touch the speaker wire with the meter.

                      WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!

                      Now, I can solder, I repair DC jacks etc, it's easy after the first time.

                      But these headphones are wrecking my head.

                      It should be really easy, I have tinned the new jack in all 4 places, no problem.
                      I've stripped the cable to expose all 4 wires.
                      I've cleaned the end of each wire.
                      I've fluxed the end of each wire.

                      But I cannot tin the wires and I cannot solder them to the jack.

                      It just does not take.

                      It's driving me mad, I've walked away twice to stop me throwing it through the window.

                      What on earth am I doing wrong?

                          lol

                          to tin enamel/plastic-coated wire:
                          twist them together, dont add flux.

                          put a big blob of solder on the tip of your iron - preferably lead-free at 300-320' temp setting.
                          hold the twisted wire end in the blob.
                          after a few seconds it will burn the coating off and take to the copper.

                            Hi stj

                            No twisting 2 wires together, soldering straight to jack connections.

                            I used 2 methods to remove coating: 1st - hot solder as you suggest, 2nd - FIRE (lighter).

                            Tried tinning with & without flux.

                                  BUT, we have lift off, the only thing I did differently was to use some cheapo lead-free that has been lurking in my toolbox for 5 years.

                                    lead-free melts at a higher temperature, so the flux is also designed to work higher without just burning.

                                    btw, the best solder i have found so-far in MANY years is Multicomp Kristall-505

                                    Farnell sells it.
                                    set your iron to 310'

                                        that can damage the coating on the iron tip.
