    USB TV Tuners

Anyone here have a recommendation for a USB TV tuner that would work on an Atom N280 powered Netbook?

All I really need is something that will work with Windows 7, and allow me to capture good quality video from channel 3. I have an old PXL2000 camera that I like to carry around for fun, and I don't want to modify it for composite video.

none. usb doesn't have the bandwith to do tv with decent quality.

it does lolz. but probably not with that atom. if you had read it, he's bringing in from a semi-compressed source. usb just chews a lot of cpu power. there are no firewire that are cheap, so usb is your best bet. besides, what's the point of answering his question with that? obviously he has no other options...

i've previously ran a happauge QAM tuner on my lappy, but comcast took my QAM away.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815116031 is a classic. i can't find any others on newegg but there used to be some. perhaps someone has hauppauge usb sticks on ebay. usually anything hauppauge is a safe bet in tv tuners. pinnacle works well too but i believe they only do composite/rca inputs.

and what are you going to use to cap? vlc or capdvhs? or tmpgenc?

Don't need anything too fancy to capture. Even Windows Movie Maker would probably work. The PXL2000 camera is only b/w low res video anyhow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PXL_2000

I'll look into the Hauppauge if I don't find anything cheaper. I have one of their PCI cards in my HTPC, and it works well. The software isn't the greatest, but I can use third party stuff.

yeah, anything beyond their drivers suck. wintv is a pos. VLC isn't really high-end, but wmm should work fine. software is all about what you feel comfortable with. most should handle that camera, its a toy.

Does not have the bandwidth?? USB2 is 480Mb. that is not fast enough for decent video?? I'm not saying that it is the best choice but USB in general not being fast enough???

uhm... analogue TV tuner or digital (DVB-T or whatever it's called in the US) ?
DVB-T isn't a problem at all. i've got a Twinhan DTV Magic Box (DVB-T Box) hooked up to my Pentium III 600MHz Laptop via USB 1.1. works just fine .. no stuttering or anything, as all the box does is send the MPEG2 video stream over USB..

Analog TV/Video however is a bit more tricky..

USB has plenty of bandwith for TV streaming.

For standard resolution tv, usb is fine. Stick with Hauppauge they are one of the top brands.

From what I understand Full HD at 720P is only 2.5MB/s. [~20 mbps]

In theory USB2 could handle 24 channels simultaneously.

From what I have read, and could be wrong, you could only run 24 channels of video through usb as long as they are interleave, not full scan.

                          .

Point was USB2 has more than adequate bandwidth for HDTV.
