Dell Class Action in New York Times

It looks like the suits are just waking up to the Dell capacitor problems. It's not news to anybody on this forum, of course.

me and someone on here i know are waiting for the other shoe to drop.
already getting gx 5xx and 6xx stuff in.dell likely sold as many or more of these than 2xx series.
of which i still get in by the ton.
with the economy and vista at play the 2xx dells are being fixed and put back in service.
and it looks like the 5xx and 6xx are too.

what i don't get is why in two cases, i saw two seeming identical units (a a couple dimension 2400's and a couple gx260's), but one had a board full of rubycon, the other had an identical full of nichincon hm (one had them blown (gx260), the other case it was fine (2400)). go figure. if only they got it right the first time, but then again, kc would have lost a lot of work.

a bit late for a suit if you ask me... but go for it, this could be fun.

Just today a guy at work brought in his 620 SFF for me to look at because it wasn't powering on. Turns out he had the PSU set to 220, which was causing it to misbehave. Upon taking it apart to reverse the fan direction though, I found a bulging MCZ. Whoever designed the airflow in that case was a moron...
He told me he replaced some caps on his 8400 a couple years back, so I'm going to bring him some caps tomorrow to fix this one. The whole interior of the case will run at least 10C cooler if you reverse the CPU fan direction.

when you are blowing 105c rubycons, you definently have a problem... i wonder if they had jobs design the cooling, look at the apple /// and the first three macs... they were all "easy bake" editions... thats what they got for trying fanless... they would melt floppy disks and desolder parts of the logic boards... who needs a hakko 808 when an old apple /// will do it for you?

What I find amazing is how many GX270's and SX270's (along with truckloads of SX280's) I still get. I get them all the time and in larger bunches from schools and corporations......the point is, they're old ass systems, yet they're refusing to upgrade them.

I've seen a big down turn in the GX280's I get, which is fine by me, 80% of those are dead anyway with whatever kills them beyond recapping/repair.

We still buy refurb gx260's and 270's from Tiger Direct to replace systems at work. We have people who are using GX110's as their primary system... ranging around 733mhz to 866mhz. And these are regular office workers, using Outlook, Office, IE, and other business apps. And, they're running win2k. The GX260 is a huge upgrade, and by doing so, we can get them up to XP.

I, myself, had a Optiplex 320 as my primary pc (P4 3.2 single core, beefed up with 4gb of RAM and a 750gb HD) at work, until I opted to switch over to my laptop for my primary computer (Core2Duo 2.0ghz, 2gb RAM, 250gb WD Black)

Not everyone works where computers get replaced every 3 years. I wouldn't say our company was NEVER like that, but they haven't been recently. A large number of our sales staff still are using 6 year old Latitude C640 laptops that the company bought new. That was our last bulk purchase of new PCs. Everything since then has been a used machine here and there... maybe new if you rate high enough.

I suspect it's just like the Bestec disaster. The 5 caps near the South Bridge are the 1.5v power supply for the Southbridge. The 1.5v goes crazy and burns the south bridge.

The memory and the CPU have their regulators too.

If I'm not mistaken a huge chunk of the money won goes to lawyers and the more people join the class action suit that more likely that what they get as compensation is smaller.

My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.

I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

Well I've learned something new today. Of all the Dell laptops I've come across I have never seen bluetooth greyed out, and only to learn this is during the build from Dell factory. I've tried to pull the original BIOS and fix with another dell with the same issue on the forums, however the original was not recovered from the forum upgrade so I cannot do a comparison to attempt the fix on my own.

If someone could help me out with this unit and I'll try the next one as so far I have 2 on my desk with this issue. Thanks in advance!
