my corporate clients love these things.
i cannot keep any on hand.
    1 phone call and gone!
its different when you sell to a corp rather than flea market folks.flea markets are a good place to sell working but ratty stuff.
thats about all those types are willing to pay for.

GX620's have a more CPU support, hence they bring a few dollars more.

Just found this site today and am glad I did. Love the service you provide on here Topcat. You will probably see a order from me soon on my GX620 USFF. My power brick actually died on me first and have yet to check my CPU but from what I have read, I had the amber lights flashing on the front before my PSU took a crap and am thinking about repairing or replacing...not sure. ANYWAYS, I am going to do the poly mod on this unit and was wondering if there was any other way of modding the case itself for better air flow, giving that being the reason why these caps go out in the first place. Thanks in advance

if you want to take any heat issue out of the factor, clean any of the dell crap paste off the CPU and heatsink and clean it well with isoprobyl. then get arctic silver 5 and apply

oh hey TC this isn't really a 'full' poly mod, but the ones that count and even a few that don't. It certainly is a good mod though

oh and I have a problem with the thread title. nothing is 'indestructible'. All it takes is a short in a power supply and all the polys in the world woulden't save you mwahhaah

Not trying to be a smartass, but Arctic Silver 5 isn't any special anymore. It is very good, but some Arctic Cooling MX-2 or some OCZ Freeze is a lot better.

True, but AS5 is widely available, some of these obscure high end pastes are impossible to find locally.

Well sure locally, but it really only take 3-4 days to get something shipped to you nowadays. But it's still a good paste. And you don't have to get any of that super duper high end stuff. $20 for thermal paste? Meh. No thanks.

Re: The Indestructible Dell GX620 USFF, FULL Poly mod!

To wake up an ancient thread......Many moons ago I bought several pallets filled with these little toasters. I recapped and sold them all except one I wanted to play around with....well 6 years later I finally did it. If anyone remembers Joe Lo (BigPope), he gave me a large sampler of Samxon's X-Con polymer caps in a wide range of values & voltages before he disappeared off the face of the earth. Using some of those plus some I had, here's the Truly Indestructible FULL poly modded GX620. There's not a single lytic remaining on this board.

Testing.... It ran memtest86 all night, no issues, same with the usual battery of tests. CPU is a Pentium D 840 3.2GHz with 4gb RAM, windows 7 pro x64.

This post of course created from it:

                Back together.

Rather worthless system I know....but I've been wanting to do this for a while and finally had the time....well, and actually remembered.

                  LOL, better late than never.

Now you have to let it run superpi in an infinite loop till the end of time.

not totally indestructible till you poly mod the PSU. Oh wait, that fucks it up

i had to recap the psu in the ones i rebuilt for the titty bar.
they were for their digital dining pos.
crammed tight in a tiny cabinet.
the fans gave up and its all downhill from there.
full poly even the small caps.
                        still going 7 years later.
we did install a fan plugged into a usb to move air through the cabinet.
i did all 9 systems at once and the only failures have been caps and ccfl in the touch monitors.

Curiosity got the better of me and I disassembled one of my DA-2 power bricks... There weren't as many lytics in it as I thought, but it had a few. Most being Rubycon RX 130* Most were higher voltages, I have no polymers even close to that....couldn't find any either.

I've reassembled it, but IIRC there were a few in the 1500uF 35v range in the secondary. 50v+ in the primary. The DA2 is a simple +12v output, so I'm not sure why the 35v in the secondary, I haven't powered it up and poked at it with a meter to see what's actually on those 35v caps.

that was done for lower esr and longevity.
iirc i had 2200@25 fc so i used them.
                                originals were lelon.
cant fault the caps as the fans died and there was zero airflow and in a tight enclosure.
