Microsoft Surface: Let me introduce myself.

Soldered SSDs are probably a ting with tablets and mobile phones.

We're not going to see it on desktops probably but on laptops maybe.

I can almost say the same for 2.5" laptop WD Blacks.

Ironically the only good one I have (99% health, currently 1 weak sector) is in a HP G62-a35SO, of all things.

I've fix a bunch of them. It was definitely a bigger issue than being reported. Perhaps many got trashed without being diagnosed. This issue however, did not affect the velociraptor. Every bad velociraptor I dealt with always had mass bad sector issues.

Hmmm... oxidation on the boards? First I'm hearing of this. What on earth causes that. Faulty manufacturing?

I don't think that will happen. Even my super thin LG Gram has two replaceable 2280 slots

Most PC manufacturers want to separate them from apple

Haha I absolutely hate mechanical hard drives for boot drives but for my games and apps it's good enough. Even Photoshop opens up plenty fast on the 4x VelociRaptor RAID0. No point wasting space on my NVMe boot SSD that's only 256GB. Lame but I got it for free. I could buy a bigger one but I don't need it so why bother.

Yeah but four of them in RAID0 performs nice. Plus they sound cool when they're busy

I am using an nvme SSD as the boot drive. The Raptors just hold my games and Adobe creative cloud software.

As for reliability honestly I love them. I have five of these drives. Ones in my bfs PC and these four. All have 30-60k hours on them.

Because SSDs smaller than 400-something GB, have poor write endurance.

Albeit I have to admit that the Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250 GB NVMe SSDs seem to be good. At least they are when you don't have super large software!

The Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250 GB NVMe SSD isn't in my daily driver, anyways.

My daily driver, has a Samsung 970 Pro 512 GB NVMe SSD.

I also bought a Western Digital Black SN750 500 GB NVMe SSD, which is still in the box at the time of this post.

Drive SMART status not showing up through RAID controller?
    by canadaboy25
    Hey guys,

I have an Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard with AMD RAIDXpert. I set up a 1000GB RAID1 array on it. This was about 8 years ago. Every once in a while, a power outage or something would knock one drive offline and degrade the array. After a reboot the drive would be back online and it would rebuild just fine.

Recently, a drive dropped offline and the array became degraded. I figured it was no big deal and rebooted then set it to rebuild overnight. The next morning I took a look and both drives had dropped offline at 70% rebuild. Uh oh.

    I rebooted...

Dell Precision T7910 no bios, no post after applying SAS/RAID setup
    by bmxlovah
    Hi,

My Dell Precision T7910 died after enabling onboard SAS controller and applying RAID settings. There were no hardware changes between working and not working state, only setup (via bios -> controller settings). After applying settings and reboot PC turns on, flash leds (normally) but there's no further action, it just stays on with no graphics and no keyboard led's on. There's no Dell logo, nothing. I've tried resetting bios by jumper, replacing cpu's, replacing ram, removed/replaced cmos battery, disconnecting all drives etc. I've also dumped .bins from mobo chips SLI1 (16...

    Abit ST6-Raid repair
    by tbalint3
    Hello All,

I am trying to repair an old Abit ST6-R motherboard.

    The symptoms are the following:
I got it in a non-working state. I was told that it sometimes turned on, but many times just the CPU fan was spinning and no other signs of life, the board didn't POST, and now it doesn't POST at all.

It was full of bulged electrolytic capacitors, so I replaced all of them with new Low-ESR ones, but it didn't solve the problem.
If I install a CPU in the S370 socket, only the fans are spinning and no POST. There are no beep codes even if the RAM DIMMs...

Getting Windows to boot after changing SATA from RAID to AHCI
    by canadaboy25
Hey guys I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get Windows 10 to boot up and install drivers after changing the bios settings for the sata port from raid to ahci.

My motherboard is an Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 and when I built the PC I set all of the sata ports to raid mode. There is one setting for ports 1-4 and one setting for port 5 and the esata port. I currently have 4 drives set up in two raid 1 arrays on ports 1-4. My ssd containing Windows 10 is plugged into port 5. I also have an external esata enclosure with a 2tb drive that I use as a Windows backup plugged into...
