The more I read about these testers, the more interesting they seem. Pretty cool that this kind of thing even exists, and it will probably make motherboard repair easier for beginners in the future.

that still looks like a vram problem - or the associated circuits.
got any multiplexers like 74ls157, 158, 257 or 258 on the board?

Tester arrived & seems to work quite well .

Detected 4 faulty chips , which i replaced using ones ordered by customer without the GP at the end .

Repaired a further 2 working chip , by adding pins , where the legs fell off .

No strange characters on display now & Apple logo present .

Issue now is that there are horizontal lines on display .

    Any advice ?

    check the voltages first,
if any are missing - specially the -5v then it can trash the chips.

    Thanks

printed out pin out of RAM chip .

    PIN 1 ( VBB ) MINUS 5 VOLTS

    PIN 8 ( VDD ) PLUS 12 VOLTS

    PIN 9 ( VCC ) PLUS 5 VOLTS

I assume supplies are common to all the RAM chips .

Customer ordered 4 RAM chip for me , therefore will have a play .

OMG. Brings me back to high school days. The schematic was published for these at the back of the apple 2+ manual. Tons of clones were made of the same in Asia.

    Thanks for the info .

Have tried already with all the RAM chips , cleaning pins , plus spraying out sockets using switch cleaner .

Will update once i have the opportunity to work on it again .

I see a lot of ICs in a lot of sockets... so that's a lot of failure points, especially in this age. Might be a bit tedious, but probably worthwhile to remove every IC and make sure the contacts in the sockets are clean and tight, then re-insert the IC. These aren't machined sockets, so they tend to not be as good.

    4116 needs 5v, 12v and -5v
before you replace any - check those voltages.
if any are missing, it can kill the chip.
also touch each chip while it's on - bad chips often get VERY hot.

Suspecting RAM issue , as you suggested .

Pulled out all the RAM chips , cleaned pins & re-seated .

Still characters on screen , but altered .

Anyone know a trusted source for RAM chips ?

    Type MK4116N-3 GP

A2141 Screen replacement. Boots screen freezes on Apple Logo 1/3 status bar unless connected to second monitor.
    by abajor
    Having this very weird issue.
The owner of this laptop complained about screen being intermittent when opening and closing, and has been using the laptop on a thunderbolt video connection since the screen failed.

I swapped with a working screen from an A2141 waiting for parts.

The Os exhibits this weird behavior where it boots to to 1/3 the status bar, then it makes the boop sound. It's at the log in but for whatever reason the desktop isn't loaded.

The laptop boots fine into recovery mode. I updated from Monterey to Sonoma and the laptop still has...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
    by smic717394
    Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...

Apple Watch Charging Controller Schematics / Boardview - 820-02601
    by a_p3rson
    Hi there,

I'm looking for anyone who might have information on Apple's embedded Apple Watch charging daughterboard, ID 820-02601. This is currently used by Anker in their Apple Watch charging products, but likely by other Apple partner brands as well.

You can see the board referenced in ChargerLab's teardown of the Anker Y1811 3-in-1 MagSafe cube - they discuss the "Apple Watch wireless charging circuit" about 2/3rds down the page. It's not pictured, but the board ID reads 820-02601-A, which sure sounds like Apple.
    This daughterboard uses an interesting...

    Samsung UE55JU6800K half screen dark
    by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

Vizio TV M50-C1 reboot cycle and static on screen
    by spice_disc
I'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.

The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...
