    Good 24/7 PSU for P3/4, s462?

I need a good ten or more power supplies for my salvaged machines that I run as file servers and such. They range from socket 370 P3's to Socket 478/B P4's to Socket 462 Athlon/XP and Durons. Most of them only have 1-2 5400RPM hard drives and a DVD drive, with 1-3 fans. I was looking in the range of 150-350 watts.

Can Anyone recommend a brand or model?

i lost the link, but one site had 550w ac-bel units for 20 a piece... built like tanks. only downside is they have 8-pin 12v, not 4-pin, but they make adapters. same for 20+4, but you get the idea.

I'd just get some 300 or 350 W Fortron's, for that kind of use.. The 550W Acbel's should work too, but are way overkill for that kind of use..

you should check if those boards use 5V or 12V for the CPU (the transition was somewhere in the P4 era) and mix and match according to that unless you choose to use beefier PSUs that have enough reserves to power both kinds reliably.

          yes.
and i don't think thing kikko mentions would be an issue in that case..

ie p4 systems i've put such fortrons in are more than happy...

powers my c2d, powers p4, powers p3 mobos...

The 550w AcBel's are terrific, heavy-duty server grade PSU's, but they have a high-CFM Nidec fan in them. LOUD! (I've got one running as I type this) Not to mention complete overkill for a P3 system.

Hypermicro has a ton of OEM surplus PSU's, most of it above-average quality stuff (lots of FSP, Delta/Newton, AcBel, etc). Check them out, if you see anything you like run it by us:

I like how hypermicro's server grade super heavy duty psu's are so cheap, and then the regular run-of-the-mill FSP's that they sell are like $40.

                There's a few $20 gems hidden in there, 370.

                400w HiPro (a bit overkill):

                300w FSP 80+:

                300w Delta:

                300w FSP:

These are all 12v-oriented, however (P4/Athlon, not the best for P3)

I wouldn't use the AcBel 550's. I've had poor results from them running older boards.
They work best on newer boards that are heavy on the +12v rail. Their load ratings on lower rails is not especially good.

I bought several used 300W Fortrons (FSP300-60PFN) which run beautifully on 5v+3.3v oriented boards. I have a fairly heavy late 32-bit nForce2 machine with one of those 300W FSP's in it. Voltages are slightly above nominal on every rail, it's basically perfect. Other PSUs I tried in that machine didn't work quite as well.

I haven't had as much luck with them on P4s though. 2 of the heavier P4 boards I've tried overload every PSU I own on one rail or another.
