Yeah and being old tech, will probably be still working in another 50 years.

But being radar, wont be much of value parts to use in other projects.
HA HA, was just gonna say watch out for the old magnetrons ? Still you never know with those Russkies.
Just be lots of copper coils and old RF switching gear. Very high power tho, nasty stuff to play with.

So I guess lots of tubes in there since transistors for high-power high-frequency did not even exist back than (and even today are not used in favour of electron tubes)? Colleague here is one of the bigget resellers of tubes you know…

Fingers crossed. But depends what part/s of it you get.
If you get the control racks and power supplies then very likely.
If you get only the head end? then wont be much at all.
Lots of value scrap metals though

Should be two 100% complete stationary radars which army is ditching. Would not be me directly doing it, I'll be probably just doing middle man for the usable parts But I hope I could at least have a look

Today's free score was a working Dell Poweredge 2650 2U rack server. 2x 3.06GHz Xeon's, 4GB RAM, and the upgraded 3 channel SCSI RAID controller. Of course the drives were missing, but SCSI stuff is dirt cheap now, and I have a bunch of it laying around.... System works fully. I've got a copy of S2K8 R1 (supports 32 bit processors), should run like a dream on this.

About 3 years ago my office had to update their fire alarm and security systems. They threw out the old fire alarm control panel and an ID badge printer. Nothing was wrong with either, just didn't work with the new systems. I pulled them off the cart before they made it the dumpster, and sold on both on eBay for over $500.

Does that count since they didn't actually make it to the dumpster?

Best places are Uni's without a doubt. Stuff Ive seen make you weep.
I did get a wooden book cupboard once, Quick rub down, removed the shelves, light stain and added two knobs. Instant classic wardrobe (closset? to you guys) I used until moving again.

Ive seen electric floor polishers, mobile Ac units, Large colour printers, gym equipment (had couple elo lcd touch screens from those) and more specialist one - off equipment you could imagine.
Although I did have the option of dozens of power supplies of all types over the years from cryo coolers, to 3 phase, and even a van der graf once. Most were too big and old to make use of. (only had a tiny house at the time).
My saddest was actually getting a very nice DC supply from 230. Was about a yard square with alluminium casing. Beautifully made with even better looking high power caps and trannys. as well as a lot of stabilizing circuitry.
Main output if I remember was about 24v dc but whatever it was it was apparently very suited to amateur radio.
I kept that in all sorts of places for about 3 years trying to find a good home for it. I couldnt give it away never mind sell it. It would have made a fantastic supply for a high power audio system.
Eventually while I had it 'stored' under our stairs, it 'disappeared'. No idea who had it or where it went Just hope it found a good loving home.

Ahh, just remembered, did once rescue a very large high power, UV, class 4 laser. All complete and with psu. Needed a van to move it though.
Posted around and got in touch with Mike from (electric stuff) who put me on to someone 'who needed one' And I believe still in use to this day
                        So one more happy ending.

I found a Xenius LCDX42WHD89 outside my next door but one neighbours house, I took one look at it never having fixed a television in my life, and saw it had no cracked screen and thought I will give it a bash, I opened the back and found 3 wires sat on a heatsink burnt, I replaced the wires, and fitted a 120mm fan to the back, after that 6 caps had gone 3 on the power supply and 3 on the inverter, I swaped them for panasonics and its been my pc monitor for about 12 months, it still has some issues like the transformer on the power supply buzzes loudly and I loose the picture sometimes. ( I don't know how to fix this issue yet, but I have the equipment) If anything I am most gratefull for what I have learnt. It was bitter sweet as my son smashed the first brand new TV I ever bought a 51" samsung 3d.

Recently I've gotten into EC flashing due to my broken laptop(s) and started frantically searching methods for flashing the IT5571E-128 chip on the cheap(due to me beaing a student and not having a job) and noticed that ITE newer chips can be flashed via ISP (In-System Programming) either via SMBus or the KBC (EPP - Enhanced Parallel Port) interface. While these can be achieved with programmers like SVOD4/3 or the RT809H/F those options are WAYYY out of my budget so I was horrified. But recently I stumbled uppon some programmers on aliexpress that claim they can program a variety of ITE chips...

When your mom is complaining about her new cheap lights
                                            by evilkitty
My Mom bought some cheap motion sensor lights on wish... then complains about about batteries and this thing chews though them, well it uses 4 AAA batteries and a pack of rechargeable ones is about 13 USD

well since it uses 4 AAA and rechargeable are 1.2v and non-recharge at 1.5 this thing must work with 4.8-6v, I'll shove a USB cable on it, infant i will use a broken phone charge cable... dam this thing uses 430 mA and they made it battery powered...

lets ignore the fact that i thought the board fit both ways... and the wire color is reversed going to the board...

Recommend a decent Multimeter on the cheap
                                            by aaronkatrini
                                            Hi all,

I was looking to upgrade my main multimeter (Asita MD591) with something that has more features. I'll use it mostly for board diagnostic and diy repairs. I've been eyeing out many of those multi-function ones from Aliexpress but can't seem to make my mind up. Here are the features that I'm looking after:

                                            - Autorange
                                            - DC volts up to 30V
                                            - Accurate Resistance
                                            - Diode test (Beep mode)
                                            - Frequency up to 200MHz
                                            - Capacitanze up to 5000uF
                                            - as cheap as possible

Other functions are not needed but those which are needed...

The Cheap Duo - Two SiS machines
                                            by Dan81
Just as the title states. Two cheap SiS machines, surprisingly stable.

What I will tackle in the near future (the build will be slightly postponed due to slight stomach issues - am still recovering and my physical power (sorry if it sounds weird,English isn't quite my primary language) isn't the best at the moment. Especially with the diet I have to take at the moment.) are two SiS based machines.

The first one is a IPC rebranded Mitac 7521T. Why did I feel the need to tackle this machine? Well, just look at the specs:

                                            CPU - P3 1100MHz Coppermine...

                                            Caseless Cheap Chinese electronic tools

"Caseless Cheap Chinese electronic tools" I mean things you get from banggood, ali, fleabay, Am-Zon, etc. like AVR-Transistortester, miscellaneous signal generators, frequency counters, (variable) power supplies, oscilloscopes, low resistance meters, etc., etc. that comes optionally with a case, or comes only with a cheap piece of plastic that barely provides protection to the PCB.

Just wondering what of these (generally flimsy) tools you actually find use (almost) everyday and find indispensable for the price, compared to buying a Fluke or whatnot, if there is an expensive...
