• Re: Circuit designz ?

Current is small. 500mA or less.
Its an E.L inverter to power an EL light.
Basically a safety light for a mates cab. Not commercial. But will need one circuit for each door.

This is why prefer not to use reeds as quite big and GLASS.
Where the circuit is going its venerable to knocks, so circuit will be fitted underneath a thin metal cover.
While its ok to drill a small hole for the light switch, you can picture a glass reed poking out is risky to getting lumped with a boot or handbag or something.
I would...

Hi yes, well spotted. I did notice that. But I just presumed they meant photo diode not ldr.

Haven't found any other circuits though, only logic based ones.

• Re: Circuit designz ?

Hi Guys, thanks for replies. Sorry never saw posts earlier.
As for the 'logic' thats correct. I was going to add a truth table / matrix but you got it.

No magnet / no light = ON
magnet or bright light = off.
Have searched around for simple circuits also, and can find plenty for either but not both. Would rather not use logic ic's as voltage / current needs to be dropped. More components.
Supply is 12v cant change that as its a motor circuit. Doesnt need to any finesse, just crude and brutal. ON / OFF like a switch....

started a topic Circuit designz ?

Circuit designz ?

Hi chaps / chapeses,

I'm struggling to come up with a SIMPLE circuit design for a project.
Anyone bored willing to help?

But it MUST be simple and be able to fit in VERY SMALL. Say area of 5p coin.
Dont mind smd's but cant do smd boards

All I can come up with is op-amp circuits with 741's and other bulky stuff.
Trouble is my days of college are long behind me working out basic stuff like this are a distant memory.

What I need is basically a just a switch. 12vDC in, 12v DC out.
But needs a photocell AND...

• Re: Shorted diode, help to identify it

You have to ask yourself for why would a diode be connected to ground ??

Any chance you can follow and trace a circuit around it. It might help identify what its purpose was and figure out what it should be, rather than guessing what it was.

Curious, what's it for? TV remote or long range communication?

I thought the later sgs phones now came with IR anyway...

LOL, not that sort of light box. But rather like this one

• Re: LG w2241s 2sec and then black

Sorting my tv out a few weeks back, i found a lingk on youtube showing the lamp good circuit for each lamp. Some sort of nandgate. If the current (voltage) goes too high it shuts off supply to inverters. Spent weeks sorting mine out, from psu caps to swapping inverters. But even after all that still tripped to black after few seconds.

Eventually after testing everything and loads of 'repairs' 'it HAD to work and was back together and on the wall. Could have cried when it just went again.
So thought F** IT. And just kept turning...

Re: backlight mod

Have you thought of using an EL sheet?

Would using led's not require different diffusing layers than ccfl's. Otherwise you will just get bright white spots.

Also slightly off topic, anyone know a section on backlit keyboards (oem or mod).

And also, anyone ever done the opposite with lcd back light. I have an old TV that failed but the backlight works great. I wondered about converting it to a light box for crafting or similar?

• Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds

Best places are Uni's without a doubt. Stuff Ive seen make you weep.
I did get a wooden book cupboard once, Quick rub down, removed the shelves, light stain and added two knobs. Instant classic wardrobe (closset? to you guys) I used until moving again.

Ive seen electric floor polishers, mobile Ac units, Large colour printers, gym equipment (had couple elo lcd touch screens from those) and more specialist one - off equipment you could imagine.
Although I did have the option of dozens of power supplies of all types over the years...

• Just a quicky - HP board info

Getting nowhere trying to id parts to repair my board ( HP DM4-2000ea) which I mention in another thread.

So taking the plunge and found a cheap replacement on fleabay in the US.
Problem is its a different spec, and I wonder if there is info, (sure there is somewhere) on a quick rundown of comparability.

I have checked over the pics to compare the boards and plugs etc. and found only one ribbon connector not quite in the same place. New board is slightly older and is green where mine is blue.
And also that my board is an i3 and fixed cpu, where the sellers...

• Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds

Fingers crossed. But depends what part/s of it you get.
If you get the control racks and power supplies then very likely.
If you get only the head end? then wont be much at all.
Lots of value scrap metals though

Yeah and being old tech, will probably be still working in another 50 years.

But being radar, wont be much of value parts to use in other projects.
HA HA, was just gonna say watch out for the old magnetrons ? Still you never know with those Russkies.
Just be lots of copper coils and old RF switching gear. Very high power tho, nasty stuff to play with.

• Re: Cleaning Motherboards - ATTN SMOKERS!!

Hi, Im in the UK. (funny how most forums originate in the US)

Anyway yet another place that doesnt do meangreen or whatever.
Never heard of the stuff. That said, the Nazis in the EU have banned almost everything usefull.

However, experience briefly working for HP and a semi conductor research institute at a local uni, allows me to share this info.
Remember all chip / si devices are not affected by water. And even after each process stage from mask aligining, etching, thin film coating etc. all...

Hi many thanks. Just having another go from mobile now.
Unfortunatly can't edit post now so copied here and perhaps someone could delete the last one please. Ill try again - briefly and upload pics after if I can.
Taken all the heart out of it now tho......sob

Anyway pics are / were of old vacuum pump bought dirt cheap from military surpless yard, cos the guy couldn't sell it?
Sorry not exactly pc related but wothy none the less.

2nd is an old clock I made while I had the flue and stuck in for few days....

• Re: HP DM4 help needed.

Just a little update / progress report.
Identified 2 transistors that pretty sure have one leg short circuit.

They are 12w 13 or here BSR13R SMD Transistor http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BSR13R-SMD-Transistor-x-1-pieces-/160937411559

Bit pricey though.
And unfortunatly there is still a def short. (after removing them)
I also re-cleaned and dried the board making sure no memnants of any crap remained.
one bit of shock as the penny dropped. After removing all the plastic + shrouds realised the cpu + gpu...

• Re: HP DM4 help needed.

Pretty certain NOT bios or any other software problem.
Because it is not getting any power. The charger works in another machine but not this one.
Ive been told and evidensed by the jack socket, that there is a data pin to the charger. Basically the logic circuits disable the charger (or prevent it switching on) there by limiting any power to the board. I've poked around with a meter but volts just flicker around the half volt mark.
I cant see / dont know the circuit that controls this. Maybe its not but maybe a fauly shorted or open...
