So I finally got around to putting the second 3.2ghz in my supermicro now that I got my delta 700w.

Well, its doing the same thing it did with the rosewill 500w. Hangs up after post. If I reset the bios and unplug it for about a hour, then it will get as far as the screen to chose which windows to boot. Also, it didn't do this before because the rosewill had the switch on the back I just flipped to restart it (didn't have the power button plugged in), but if I hold the power button to turn it off when it is hung up, it eventually turns off. All the fans stop, no input to monitor, but the keyboard stays lit up and frozen until you unplug the psu and it discharges. Strange.

Anyways, is there any settings I should change in the bios to make this work? It says that there is two processors installed, both at 3.2ghz in the bios.

Look for an option called "Just work you miserable shit" and enable it.

Should I change the MPS revision?

It keeps defaulting to 1.1, the manual says it should be at 1.4.

Yup. Version 1.2

Even bought a new bios chip a while back, and it was flashed to the newest version.

Try a different keyboard, also different ports USB and PS2.

Maybe it's the keyboard? Worth a try...

Damn, keyboard trick didn't work either.


What should the VID be set at on these? The bios automatically put them at setting 30 (1.200,) is that the core voltage or should I not mess with that?

The hanging may be that your memory isn't matched? Try booting and shutting down with only one stick installed.

Are both CPUs exactly MATCHED? down to SL specs and manufacturing date?

Wasn't that board sold on Ebay?

The processors are out of a dell dimension 4 or 670, and that worked just fine before the caps went to hell on them.

Both processors work fine in a single processor config on the board.

Yes, the board was bought on ebay which is what I am starting to believe is what is wrong with it.

Try running something like CPUz http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php, that'll tell you the family, stepping and revision etc. of the CPUs.

They need to be identical, or your likely to get the problems your having.

have you tried booting anything else? ubcd, knoppix, PE or similar?
a friend's machine needed a win reinstall after i put in a dual core cpu. probably because the old windows was set to ACPI uniprocessor (which i believe is set by default if only one core is detected, at least in 2000/XP)
