Hey guys, I'm just an amateur trying to figure out what's wrong with this PS5. I've tried reading and watching as much as I can, but I figured I could use some opinions on this diagnosis.
About the PS5:
Model: CFI-1116A
Board: EDM-020
Symptoms:
Does not boot. Beeps on power button press, beeps 3 times on eject press when disc unit is attached. Beeps every time power button is pressed (1-2 seconds apart). No lights, no fan spin.
What I've done:
Verified PSU is working.
Fuses are all good.
Verified standby voltages: 1.8v, 3.3v, 5v, 12v are all present and I can't find any obvious shorts.
When powering it with bench supply it draws 20mA initially for 1-2 seconds, then 0mA indefinitely. This lead me to believe the BIOS was corrupt or something, took the chip off and wrote another .bin to it. It was from a 1115A I found here on the forum, I changed the model and serial number to mine with thecod3r's NOR tool. No change in behaviour.
32kHz oscillator is running, does that mean the southbridge is probably fine? Or could it still be that?
At this point I'm leaning towards the HDMI IC being the culprit, but I would like to verify this before ordering a new one. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? Seems odd that the PS5 is not even trying to boot, can that happen with a faulty HDMI encoder? I'm assuming the NOR flash is good since I could write and verify the bin.
I really appreciate any and all input. Thank you!
